I am trying to setup wpml, installed it, trying to configure it. The first step is to define the language of the existing content. I click on the dropdown, nothing shows there.

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve these issues.

Hope you are trying to install and configure WPML for the first time on this site. Please try the following steps after a full site backup and make sure you are getting the expected result.

1) Go to WPML>>Support page
2) Click on Troubleshooting link (blue link in the middle of the page)
3) In the Troubleshooting page, scroll down to *Reset* section
4) Choose *Reset* and click on *Reset and deactivate WPML* button
5) Then delete the WPML plugin files from the Plugins page
6) Upload the latest version of WPML again
7) Then try to activate and configure WPML
