Background of the issue:
I am trying to access my French version of the shop page at hidden link. However, I am being redirected first to hidden link, which I never created. I have not set up any redirections using plugins or the htaccess file. This redirection error is also reported in Google Search Console.
Symptoms:
Unexpected redirection from hidden link to hidden link. The redirection is flagged as an error in Google Search Console.
Questions:
Why is my shop page redirecting to a URL I never created?
How can I stop the redirection from hidden link to hidden link?
Is there a way to identify what is causing this redirection?
How can I fix the redirection error reported in Google Search Console?
I understand that the French version of the shop page is redirecting you to another page. However, when I checked "madeinatlas.com/fr/boutique/", I didn't encounter any redirect. The 'boutique' page loaded without redirecting to any other pages. Please check the attached screenshot.
The issue you encountered could be temporary, possibly caused by cached data. Could you please clear the caches from your site and browser, then check again? If possible, try using an incognito window or a different browser. I hope you won't encounter any redirection after that.
After clearing the caches, please submit the page to Google Crawler again. Since I haven't noticed any redirection or redirect information in the page header, hopefully, the page will be crawled without showing any errors.
Please let me know the update. I will be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.
Hi There
I think there is a misunderstanding here, i mean this page : hidden link
please check it you will find a clear redirection, from this page hidden link to this one hidden link.
actually i don't know where this page comes from ? i never create such a page!
my hidden link works great but i got a sitemap error in google search console with this page hidden link
I understand the problem. Let me explain what is happening here. When you create a translation using WPML, if you try to access the translated page by manually inserting the language code in the URL bar while keeping the default page slug, the plugin's redirection feature will check and redirect you to the correct page. This prevents errors and loss of traffic, ensuring a smooth user experience and keeping visitors engaged with the website.
However, the sitemap should only include the pages that exist, not the URLs that redirect to translations. Since you're using WPML SEO plugin, these URLs should be filtered out from the sitemap.
Would you please try the following and then check if that helps in solving the issue?
- Make sure to keep the WPML SEO plugin enabled.
- Please go to Yoast SEO > Settings
- Scroll down and you'll see the XML sitemaps card. Toggle the switch and disable the features.
- Now, Clear the caches from your site. browser and if Cloudflare cache is enabled, clear caches from there as well.
- Go to "Settings > Permalinks" and resave the permalink structure.
- Re-enable the XML Sitemap feature.
- Go to "Yoast SEO > General" and click on the Start SEO Data Optimization button.
After completing the optimization process, please open the sitemap links and manually check for any incorrect links. If everything looks correct, submit the sitemap for crawling to ensure the issue does not recur in the search console.
Let me know how it goes. I will be happy to help if you need further assistance in this matter.
Best regards,
Prosenjit
