This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

In the plugin section, I have the following alert:

"WPML plugin cannot connect to wpml.org
WPML needs to connect to its server to check for new releases and security updates. Something in the network or security settings is preventing this. Please allow outgoing communication to wpml.org to remove this notice."

Solution:

Please go to your WPML account settings and delete the site key. (https://wpml.org/account/sites/)

After that, please try the following steps:
1- Deactivate all of your plugins except WPML CMS
2- Go to plugins-> Add new-> Commercial tab
3- Click on "Unregister WPML from this site"
4- Click on "Register WPML"
5- Click on "Get a key for this site"
6- Register the site and enter the key

Hello,
1. On this website with different domains, one per language: hidden link

2. In the plug-in section, I have the following alert:

"WPML plugin cannot connect to wpml.org
WPML needs to connect to its server to check for new releases and security updates. Something in the network or security settings is preventing this. Please allow outgoing communication to wpml.org to remove this notice."

3. I checked common solution, such as: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/site-key-does-not-match-3/
Basically, I unregisered this site from wpml and add a new key, as mentioned in the above mentioned forum thread.

4. But stil, the error message is dispayed.

5. FYI, all my plug-in are up to date.

6. I recently changed the hosting of another site I have under WPML, sabre-heros.com . Maybe it bugs somethings in the keys ?

7. The error I see are: "Site key does not match for: xxx.com". Same for all my domains of this website.

Please let me know what I should do.

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

I have checked from our side and it seems it should work fine, please try to disable any security or cache plugins and make sure your hosting is not blocking connection to *WPML.org domains

Then please force re-check as explained here and the message should go away:

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

1. I forced re-check, many times, but the error still exists

2. I went to support installer. There is still the error:" site key does not match for: xxx.com"

3. Also, in the Advanced Translation Editor Error Logs, there are many errors, such as: "Started attempt to download xliff file. The process did not finish." ; or "Service Unavailable"

4. Can you help on that ?
