This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was unable to see the pencil icon for editing translations in the WPML string translation feature. This issue was suspected to be due to a conflict or a database collation issue.
Solution:
We initially attempted to log into the client's admin panel to investigate directly, but faced login issues. We then recommended that the client contact their hosting provider to change the database table collation for all

icl_string*

tables to

utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci

. Additionally, we provided an SQL query to convert all tables and character columns in the MySQL database from

latin1_swedish_ci

to

utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci

, which can be executed via phpMyAdmin. The SQL query can be found here: https://pastebin.com/B7hUukgx.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I was trying to use the string translation feature in WPML. When I accessed the page at hidden link, I noticed an issue.

Symptoms:
The translation language edit button, which usually appears as a pencil icon, has disappeared.

Questions:
Why is the translation language edit button missing?
How can I restore the edit pencil icon for string translation?

Thanks for your patience.

I regret any inconvenience caused, but to proceed with troubleshooting, I kindly ask for a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.

To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:

1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link

2. Consult WPML's instructions on providing supporters with a copy of your site: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.

Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.

Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.

Thanks for your reply. Could you please reset the credentials for me again? I can't seem to login and the reset password link does not work for me.

Thanks for your patience. Our 2nd Tier Support checked and it looks like the WPML tables are using the wrong database collation. Please ask your hosting provider to change the database collation to utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci if the server supports it.

If they are not sure, please grant access to your server database (phpmyadmin) and I will make the changes for you.

Please remember to backup before performing any changes to the Website and Database.

Okay, how can I grant you access to the server database (phpMyAdmin)?

As a side note, in WPML >> My Account >> Preferences, I have checked “Send me an email when I receive a reply to a support question,” but I still haven’t received any notification emails. Is there anywhere else I can configure this? I also apologize for replying four days late, as I did not receive the email notification. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, you can share access to your database so that I can make the changes for you. Please remember to perform a full backup.

As for the email notification, I suspect your email provider is blocking our emails. Maybe you can recheck that?

Hello, I have already sent an email inviting you to use that account as a wordpress.com account. After registering, you should be able to view the backend. If this method doesn’t work, I will ask the wordpress.com hosting provider to assist with the modifications. Thank you very much

Thanks for your reply. Ok, I'm in. Could you confirm that you have a backup prepared? I'm going to run an SQL script, and this might break the site.

Is it feasible to use Jetpack VaultPress Backup?
