The site is this: hidden link - This is multisite, altough only one site exists yet, this one.
The default language is Hungarian and I would like to have a proper English footer section for the English version of the site. Also, I need to change header section as well.
Could you please help why I can't see the String Translation menu?
I'm following this article:

Thanks a lot!

Thank you for contacting WPML Support. Could you please make sure you have installed and activated WPML String Translation plugin:

If still issue persists, please add the debug report in the Debug Information box. I have also enabled debug info box for your next reply:

Sorry but I am having my weekend (Fridays and Saturdays are off for me). In the meantime I have taken a look in the debug info and find out that you are using a very old version of WPML core plugin v3.6.3.

1. Please update WPML Multilingual CMS to the latest version from the downloads page v4.2.6:

2. Please upgrade your server’s MySQL version to a higher level by contacting hosting support:
MySQL 5.5.5 version in your site, is lower than the required for WPML.

Additionally for better performance please do the following as well:

-- I have noticed that your website’s WP Memory Limit is 64MB. The WP memory limit needs to be increased, it's different than php memory. PHP memory is fine but WordPress uses 64Mb as default in your site. Minimum requirements for WPML are 128Mb:

Please add this to the top of wp-config.php to increase WP memory:

/* WP Memory Limit */
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');
define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );

I hope after doing above changes, WPML and String translation will work fine. Thank you

Hi Norman,

thank you for your assistance. The problem is, the site is already at my clients server and they are not really flexible.
I've tried to update to the latest version of WPML, but it failed, perhaps because of the server environment. Eventhough I try to update an other way to the latest version, and hope it will work.

Best regards, Vera

Yes and you can also delete and install WPML plugin manually after taking full site backup. To do a manual update please follow these steps:

1. Please take your full site backup.

2. Deactivate the existing WPML plugin.

3. Delete the plugin files – this does not delete your translations. You will simply delete the plugin files from your "wp-content/plugins" folder, NOT the database records.

4. Download the updated plugin from our server ( and upload them to the plugin directory OR install via Dashboard plugins page.

5. Activate the WPML plugin and add-ons.

This work in most cases. Thank you
