Tell us what you are trying to do?

Improve speed in our webshop. The WPML String Translation slows down our website (see attachment).

What can we do to make the WPML String better?
We uploaded an screenshot of our settings.

With best regards,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

Can you tell me you've seen these links and tried some advice posted there?

Hi Bruno,

1.We disable the auto register. That is this screenshot right?

2. Is it true that you can delete strings that you dont use? If yes, could we delete them?
But what to do when we need a delete string after?

3. What would happen when we delete a string. Is the string not visible in WPML or is the string than not visible on the whole website?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

1) Yes, that is correct. I would also advise that you disable "Make themes work multilingual" option (Adjust IDs for multilingual functionality), if it is active. WPML -> Languages -> Make themes work multilingual.

2) You can always rescan the theme/plugins where these strings appear and that would bring them back. You can also make a backup, perhaps exporting PO files of that translation package.

3) If you remove that string, you will not be able to translate it. However, it will only remove a reference in database, since strings come from themes/plugins/page builder content mostly.

Hi Bruno,

3.Is it also possible to remove strings of a whole plugin? Some plugins we don't use at the front end.
It costs a lot of time to delete strings one by one...

3a. When we delete a string in any plugin. Is the string than not visible anymore in the back-end?

greets,

Jerry

Hi,

You can disable these strings here (see the image). But you would have to delete them manually from String Translation (for that domain only). Within "Select strings within domain", select that domain from the dropdown and then click "Display all results" at the bottom right. You can delete them all at once then. It will remove them from string translation only, without affecting any of the theme/plugin code.
