I am trying to translate posts which have been already catogorised in the "main" language.

The translated posts seem NOT to have inherited the translated categories.
How do I resynch the categories for each posts ?

I mean:
my post, in English, has category "Europe" and "Relax".
I translate this post in French and German and I would expect these two posts have (more or less automatically) taken the categories "Europe" and "Relax" as I have defined also in French and German.
This is not the case (or the translator did something wrong).

How do I "resynch" these new posts in such a way they get again the link with the categories ?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the WPML Support.

To synchronize your post categories please go to WPML -> Taxonomy Translation. Then select "categories" from the drop down. Verify the status of your translations and complete them if necessary. Then go to the hierarchy synchronization tab, select "categories" and sync them, if necessary.

Let me know if this solved the issue. If not, it might be that a compatibility issue is causing the problem.

Kind regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas, thank you for helping.
Indeed I have already synchronised the categories but the issue is still there.
It looks to me like the Post are Stuck with some categories.
I have 1 category "Africa" which is translated (not as string but a slug) from English to French and German.
There should be 2 posts in English under this category (africa-eng) and the two translation go such post in the same category set in French (africa-fr) and German (africa-eng).
But if you look at how many posts there are in the translated categories (the first screenshot), you find some differences: africa-de=2 posts (OK) and africa-fr= 4 posts.

Let's dig in the 4 posts set for africa-fr (second screenshot) and you find 2 posts
"Vivez l’Afrique du Sud" and "Marsa Alam: Fascinating play of colours" which took also categories NOT in the same language (Africa is repeated in both, one took a German category like "Unkategorisiert".
What is worst is that when we try to edit each of these post and assign the correct categories, we DO NOT have access to the categories classified under another language (most likely they are filtered).

I how this help you to understand the situation we have, else I can share access to the site and we could walkthrough together.

Hello,

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. It would be better to a testing site where the issue is replicated.

You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I’ll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” on your site. This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content. Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site. Let me know if this is ok with you.

IMPORTANT

Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this:

Kind regards
Andreas

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

The provided username is sadly invalid. Could you please verify again and provide the correct credentials?

In the meantime could you please try to run the site in minimal setup to see if the issue persists?

In oder to do so, please disable any additional plugin that is not related to WPML and its add-ons. If the issue disappears please start reactivating any plugins, or activate them in small groups. This way please verify at which points the issue appears again to indicate the plugin that is causing the issue.

Also please change to a default theme like TwentySeventeen to see if the issue might be theme related.

Further, you could enable the wp-debug feature to see if there are any current PHP errors given.
More information about how to activate this feature you can find here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/debugging-wpml/

Kind regards
Andreas

Unfortunately, we had to go live with the website and I re-installed a configuration that is suitable for our purpose.

I will try to provide a test environment to investigate this issue at another time.
For the moment we can consider my issue resolved and close this ticket.

Thank you!

Hello i am experiencing exactly the same issue. When i translate posts to the secondary language they do not inherit the category that the original post was assigned to. All categories are translated in both languages and can be seen in wpml Taxonomy Translation.
