Hello,

My website is in English and it's translated to 18 other languages. The pages in English are all indexed by Google, along with blog posts and landing pages, but hardly any of the pages with translations is indexed. We have the redirect by language browser switched on and we need to show our customers a correct language (manual switch is out of the question). Could the redirect be the issue behind unindexed pages? If so, what is the best work around? I have to stress that we need both – translated pages indexed and website showing pages in users languages. Could something else be causing the translated no index issue?

Kind regards,
Emilia from Meridian Team

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

Yes, browser redirection can cause issues with indexing. Please see https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/automatic-redirect-based-on-browser-language/how-browser-language-redirect-affects-google-indexing/

Unfortunately we can't offer a better solution as a plugin can't affect how Google works. You may consider using a 3rd party plugin for redirection.
