Background of the issue:
I'm translating about ~20 articles from English to French using the WPML advanced editor. Occasionally, I need to switch to the regular WP editor because the advanced editor misidentifies French guillemets and text in square brackets as code, requiring manual translation.

Symptoms:
Parts of my translated text are being overwritten, especially after using the regular WP editor. This results in certain paragraphs reverting to the original language.

Questions:
Why are parts of my translations being overwritten?
How can I prevent the advanced editor from misidentifying text as code?

Hello,

On each original content, inside the right sidebar of the WordPress Editor, inside the section "Languages" you will set the translation method for each content, which can be:

- WPML Translation Editor
or
- WordPress Editor

You can not use both methods at the same time, as the WPML Translation Editor can not recognize changes made on the WordPress Editor in second languages. If you translate the content again with the WPML Translation Editor, the changes will be overwritten.

If you use the WPML Translation Editor as the translation method, any adjustments after translating automatically should always be taken on the WPML Translation Editor.

If you experience a bug inside the Advanced Translation Editor I can offer a WPML test site on which we can recreate the issue and escalate it internally to our development team.

---

Further, we have the following known issue for translations created with the WordPress Editor:

If you use the WordPress Editor for creating the translation, then this might be a known issue that we reported here:
https://wpml.org/errata/editing-translated-posts-directly-can-result-in-lost-content/

The workaround would be for now to disable WPML String Translation and to translate the content again until we release an update that solves this issue.

If you think that this known issue might not be the root of the problem, please let me know.

Best regards
Andreas
