Want to translate theme textdomain but string translation doesnt load theme textdomain

jelleS	Background of the issue: I want to translate the theme textdomain using WPML. I changed the translation in the database to fix it quickly, but it isn't showing on the frontend. The site I need help with is hidden link. Symptoms: String translation doesn't load the theme textdomain. Questions: Why isn't the theme textdomain translation showing on the frontend? How can I ensure that WPML loads the theme textdomain correctly?
