This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

If you're experiencing issues where the Japanese and Chinese language flags on your website do not link to their correct home pages, and instead, the Japanese flag links to an outdated page, the issue might be due to redirection rules set in Yoast SEO.

Solution:

We recommend checking the redirection settings in your Yoast SEO plugin (Yoast SEO → Redirects). It appears that the redirection rules you've set for the Japanese and Chinese homepages are causing this behavior. If the issue persists when Yoast SEO Premium is active and stops when deactivated, this confirms that the redirection is functioning as configured within Yoast SEO.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Should these steps not address your problem, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket with us for further assistance at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to ensure that the language flags on my website correctly link to their respective home pages. The English home page is at hidden link. However, when I click on the Japanese and Chinese flags, they do not link to the correct home pages. The Japanese flag, for example, links to an outdated page at hidden link. I expect the Japanese page to be similar to the German page at hidden link. I am seeking someone who can provide support rather than just advice.

Symptoms:
The Japanese and Chinese language flags on my website do not link to their correct home pages. Instead, the Japanese flag links to an outdated page, and the correct content can only be accessed by previewing changes from an earlier version of the page.

Questions:
Why do the Japanese and Chinese language flags not link to their correct home pages?
How can I fix the issue of the Japanese flag linking to an outdated page?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you resolve the issue. Sorry for the late response; it was because of the holidays.

Please open the Homepage for editing in the original language and check that it is connected with the Japanese and Chinese translations. You may have to connect it as described in the following doc:

https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/

Also, please upgrade to the latest version of WPML (4.7.4 series) after a full site backup {mandatory}.

Hi Bigul,
The problem is not resolved. We have updated the plugin to WPML (4.7.4 series).
The problem remains with the link from the Japanese flag and Chinese flag.

You will note that when you click on the JAPANESE flag you will be redirected to a completely different URL (which we have changed to read that the page is under maintenance).

You will note that when you click on the CHINESE flag you will be redirected to a completely different URL (which we have changed to SHOW the Chinese HOME PAGE content as this is vital for our Chinese customers.)

You will note that the url hidden link
IS NOT the home page url hidden link

Hello,

Thank you for the login information. The Japanese and Chinese homepages are being redirected because you have set redirection rules for them in Yoast (Yoast SEO → Redirects). So, this appears to be the expected behavior.

The redirection does not occur when the Yoast SEO Premium plugin is deactivated, indicating that it is working as expected in that case.

Please check the following screencast and attached images for more details.
