Hello,

I'm trying to use WPML like this:
Dutch: hidden link
English: hidden link
Estonian: hidden link
Russian: hidden link

I couldn't figure it out how could I use this /ru version of domain. Since Russia is not their target market, they wouldn't like to use .ru domain because it would maybe give an Idea that their Russian Company as well or so... Is it possible to somehow set it up like this as I want to?

Thanks,
Mattias

Hi and thank you for contacting WPML Support!

I will be happy to help you with this.

As far as I know, you can't combine directories with different domains without some custom programming.

My recommendation is that you get in touch with a WPML Contractor from our Contractors list in the link below in case that exact implementation is 100% necessary: https://wpml.org/contractors

If it is not, you could use a subdomain for the Russian language:
hidden link

I hope that you will find this info useful.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this topic.

I will be more than happy to help 🙂

Kind regards,

I think that it's easier to buy this. ru domain and let it be 🙂 But it's really odd that I can't "fix domain" as hidden link or something with this Option there.

If somebody could actually tell me the part of plugin (WPML is quite big so wouldn't want to go through all the files) that does that - I'd really take a look to understand a bit why. Not for this project since it's quite ready almost but for the future.

Hi Mattias.

I got an answer from some of my colleagues regarding your question and they said that there is not a simple line of code that can be changed and make this work.

There are a lot of places with multiple functions and it's pretty complicated.

Also, one of them confirmed that there is already a request for implementing this feature that you are looking for and that it will be implemented in the future but I am not able to know when exactly will that happen.

I hope that this information helps.

Kind regards,
Mihai
