Hi,

You could always try uploading them through SFTP, here are credentials:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-is-causing-site-to-load-terribly-slow/#post-3381209

However, I am wondering whether it would make more sense if you try tweaking speed related things on your setup, rather than on our CW, since the server settings and bandwidth might be different as well?

Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno,

The plugin is already uploaded, and I mentioned in my first post it's not working on our server. This is for debugging speed issues b/c of WPML and recommended by WPML, so it makes sense it should be possible on a WPML server. Doesn't WPML offer support of their product? (We paid for support.)

Since we are on Cloudways, can you get this plugin working outlined here: https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-debug-performance-problems/
I tried running it on the transferred site but receive a server error.

Hi,

When I enter the login screen, I see "Password" field only. Have you put some sort of a plugin there that does this? I set next reply as private so you can send me this password (and WordPress access in case you changed it in the meantime).

Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno,

Yes, you shouldn't need the password if you log in at /wp-admin first. You need to login to the admin to use the plugin WPML recommends anyway.

Hi,

Check now, it should work. White screen appeared due to heavy memory load of the whole setup, as I got this within debug.log:

[27-Mar-2019 11:26:53 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 69632 bytes) in /mnt/BLOCKSTORAGE/home/219772.cloudwaysapps.com/ksccwusshf/public_html/wp-content/plugins/debug-objects/inc/class-db_query.php on line 275
[27-Mar-2019 11:26:53 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1462272 bytes) in /mnt/BLOCKSTORAGE/home/219772.cloudwaysapps.com/ksccwusshf/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3778

This was just above 256MB memory limit, so I put 512 now, that should be enough I believe for this plugin to run.

Hi Bruno,

When I log in to the admin (running verrrry slowly, like 30sec load time), I tried to view the homepage but it said Error Establishing Connection to the Database.

I refreshed and it loaded with broken images... when I click on the "Objects" as instructed in the WPML page, it shows a server error.

Hi,

I think that this happens because our CW cloudways server does not use any optimization and we also have limited space on those. We usually use those servers to exclude possible server related issues and as staging servers if our clients don't have any.

Hi Bruno,

This is the optimization process recommended by WPML. We'll need to figure it out. Can you refer the ticket to another specialist with experience with the WPML recommendation?

We don't know what to optimize if WPML is slowing the site down so much that it can't be diagnosed, even on WPML's own server.

Hi,

Cloudways is not WPML owned server, we are mostly using it as a staging server when clients don't have it.

Related to this:

Can you refer the ticket to another specialist with experience with the WPML recommendation?

What I can do is the following:
- suggest https://wpml.org/contractors/ that you ask for quote on speed optimization (this may be the best approach due to heavy demands for performance this site has - and most likely will as you add more content)
- using Debug Objects, create a list of queries and get page generation times on your server and prepare a report using:
https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-debug-performance-problems/#reporting-your-results-via-wpml-technical-forum
-- I will pas this info to our 2nd tier then for further opinions

Hi,

I forgot - please also send this information related to page generation time from various pages (front end and the backend), with WPML being activated and deactivated.

Hi Bruno,

Are reading/understanding my posts? At least 5+ posts are telling you this is not working and trying to get it to work on your server:

- using Debug Objects, create a list of queries and get page generation times on your server and prepare a report using:
https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-debug-performance-problems/#reporting-your-results-via-wpml-technical-forum

If you are able to do this, can you copy/paste the data to a private post in this thread? (not screenshot)

Hi,

This is why I suggested this:

- using Debug Objects, create a list of queries and get page generation times on your server and prepare a report using:

I was referring to your original site and not our Cloudways server - if this works on your server (since our CW server is set not to be optimized - this particular installation), data received from your server will be equally relevant. I am hoping it makes sense? Sorry if not putting it clearly :).

Bruno, this is very strange, and I don't mean to be rude, but it seems like you have not read my first post nor any replies. Please look at the first post I made to start this thread.

"We are not able to run the debug plugin on our server, noted here https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-debug-performance-problems/"

The entire point of moving to your server was to try running the debug plugin recommended by WPML, but it doesn't even work on your server. How am I supposed to contact a developer with debug info if WPML's recommended steps to provide it doesn't even work?

Hi,

Please receive my sincerest apologizes related to this - as the ticket has progressed, I forgot about that initial fact. As for this, it seems as if 512MB limit I set wasn't enough (I got memory limit issue once again) for this report to be generated, so I upped it a bit more.

I've tried this on few more pages now and it seems that I am able to get reports. Does it work for you now? It is slow, but it does give results and queries.

Let me know how it goes!

Bruno Kos
