Hi,
on a webside of mine, i have an older version of wpml running. Because i do not need any translation any more, just only the side in the defaul language, i want o disable the wpml plugin.
If i do this, all sides in the frontend miss their content. the_content() from wordpress is returning nothing.

Is there a way, to disable wpml and use all content elements from the actual default language i used with wpml?

Br, Michael

Hi and thank you for contacting WPML Support!

I will be happy to help you with this.

That sounds really weird and it should not happen when you disable WPML if we are talking about the default language of the site.

Can you please try this:

1. Create a full backup of the site
2. Update the WPML plugins to the latest version, together with any other plugins/current theme that have updates available
3. Now disable WPML and see if the result is the same

If that doesn't work either, I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:
https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/

**IMPORTANT**

- Please make a backup of the site files and database before providing us access.

- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box.

The private box looks like this: hidden link

I will be waiting for your response.

Kind regards,
Mihai Apetrei

Hi and thank you for the credentials + the extra information.

Unfortunately, I am not able to log into the backend of the site by using the credentials that you shared.

Can you please check? I am also attaching a screenshot.

I will be waiting for your response.

Just a note that I am at the end of my shift at the moment and I will be able to get back to you tomorrow.

PS: If you would prefer to not wait for a ticket response, you can mark this current ticket as resolved and in the process of creating a new ticket, you can select the "Live chat" option (it should be the default method now).

Kind regards,
Mihai

Now I can confirm that I was able to log in.

I will spend more time on this and I will get back to you as soon as I have more feedback.

I will leave the ticket assigned to myself for the moment.

Hi and thank you for your patience.

I tried to check and see how the homepage looks when WPML is enabled and how does it look when it is disabled and to be honest, I was not able to see any difference as the homepage (and this page: hidden link) looks the same for me whenever WPML is either active or disabled.

Can you please take a screenshot or screen-recording and point the exact areas where you see changes happening when WPML is disabled? I might not look in the right place (if you also have links, that would also help).

I will be waiting for your response.

Kind regards,
Mihai

Hi, you can see the problem on the sub pages, like:
hidden link

After the headline there is no more content, but it should be like on the live side:

Hi and thank you for the example.

Now I see the issue.

To further debug the problem I’d like to replicate your site locally.

I will need your written approval to be able to duplicate your site using a plugin called "Duplicator" and test your site on a local environment so can you please let me know if this is ok with you?

I will be waiting for your response.

Kind regards,
Mihai Apetrei

Hi and thank you for your patience.

I wanted to let you know that I'm still looking into this and I hope that by the end of tomorrow, I will have some feedback.

It is very weird that the page's content doesn't load and I'm still looking for incompatibility issues.

I will keep you updated.

Kind regards,
Mihai

Hi.

Quick question:

At the top of the notifications in the site's backend WordPress panel, I can see that there is a notification to set up WPML. I will also attach a screenshot of that notification.

Can you please let me know if this showed up also when you had the "3.2.2" version of WPML?

I am asking this because, at the moment, even if we have WPML active or disabled, the same error is showing and the content is not loading.

Please let me know.

Kind regards,
Mihai
