Hi,

Thank you for contacting WPML support!

Can you tell me if you're using these theme?
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/creating-multilingual-sites-using-the7-theme-and-wpml/#translating-menus

If yes, is the problem that the menu disappears? Have you tried synchronizing the menus between languages, or is the issue that even on default language the menu disappears once you activate WPML?

Regards,
Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno
Yes I am using The7 theme, and my default language is English and it still disappears.

Hi,

I'm not sure what's going on, could be a compatibility issue.

Therefore, may I ask you to install the theme here?

Login: hidden link
Username: demo
Password: 6VQ92tScUij2

And setup the same WPML languages as they are on your site, along with having the same theme settings/menu for the homepage. We need nothing else, don't add any other plugins (only what is required for the theme).

If we see the same behavior here, I will escalate this to our compatibility team for further inspections.

Let me know if you have some questions related to this!

Regards,
Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno,

okay sure I will try that, however my site is a multi site and 2/3 sites work okay will WPML, could it still be a compatibility issue?

Hi,

however my site is a multi site and 2/3 sites work okay will WPML,

Are these using the same theme with the same setup - in other words, it is the same multisite network where only 1 site is affected? Any difference between that particular site and other sites where it works you are aware of, such as caching plugin or something else?

Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno,

Yes everything is the same as the other sites and all the sites are on the same multi site network.

Hi,

Can I ask you the following then? In order to debug this issue , I will install Duplicator PRO plugin, will create packages and will try this on my localhost and possibly escalate further to 2nd tier.

https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

Let me know if this is OK with you.

If yes, I will need WordPress admin username and password so I could do this. I have marked your next reply private so you can safely add this information.

Please make a full backup of your site before sharing this info!

Hi,

I have been browsing through all these sites on the network for a while, but I still failed to see what is the difference. I do see that you're using several caching plugins, while this site has 52 active plugins vs hidden link which has 43

Therefore, I suggest that before we investigate this issue further, could you make sure your server conforms to our minimum requirements?
https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/

Based on provided debug information, I can see the following - WP Memory Limit: 40M and also Utf8mb4 charset not working.

Specifically, could you set WP Memory limit to at least 256MB and then let me know if this fixed your issue and activate Utf8mb4 charset:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/editing-wp-config-php/#increasing-memory-allocated-to-php
hidden link.

You can confirm it by checking on WPML -> Support by finding the “Memory limit” value and checking other values being set.

Can you also do the testing in the following way, but only for the site in question (downloads):
- only WPML plugins are activated, as it will tell us if there is an interaction issue with other plugin

There must be something we're missing here.

As last thing, can you perhaps try creating a new site in the network, using the same theme and everything and checking if it works there would only WPML active? We can use it as a test site.

Let me know how it goes and what you think!

Bruno Kos

Hi Bruno

So I have done all the below, I found out the problem. One of our plugins are causing the issue, it is the Multisite Master Shared Menu. Would it be possible if you could assist with this, I really need this to work. I am willing to pay for your services as well.

Hi,

it is the Multisite Master Shared Menu

I've checked this plugin and it seems to be abandoned when it comes to development:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-shared-menu/

The last update has been four years ago, so maybe it would be a better strategy to rely on newer solutions to get this working? I have not found anything similar, though, and I believe that you got the same results.

Can you tell me how often do you change menu items in the menus? Because if this happens rarely, did you consider using plugin such as this one?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/export-import-menus/

I have not tested it on multisite, but I would assume that you could export one menu from the original and then import it into other sites in the network.

Bruno Kos
