This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

You are using Yoast SEO with WPML to manage SEO headlines and meta descriptions in Swedish, and have translated them using string translation. However, the default Swedish translations randomly change to other languages, and the Swedish translation disappears.

Solution:

First, ensure you have a full site backup before proceeding with any changes. We recommend trying the workaround suggested in a related support ticket, which addresses a similar issue with string translations. You can find the workaround here: WPML support forum.

Additionally, the fix for this bug will be included in the upcoming WPML 4.8 version, which is currently in development. Until then, please continue using the workaround.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If needed, please open a new support ticket for further assistance at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am using Yoast SEO with WPML to manage SEO headlines and meta descriptions in Swedish, and I have translated them using string translation. I want to maintain these translations across all languages.

Symptoms:
The default Swedish translations randomly change to other languages, and the Swedish translation disappears.

Questions:
Why do the Swedish translations randomly change to other languages?
How can I ensure that translations remain consistent across all languages?

I see that what we did is not in the case file.

We updated everything and cleared cache.

After browsing around in admin for a bit. It is now in norweigan 🙁

So there is still an issue here.

Hello,

Thank you for the updates. Maybe it will be related to known issue - https://wpml.org/errata/yoast-seo-incorrect-ogurl-meta-tag-on-translated-author-archives/

If possible, please consider staging/dev site (a clone copy of the live site) on the same server. It will help us to troubleshoot the bug without affecting the live site.

We would like to make sure the bug is existing in a minimal setup. Normally, we do the following steps to track the bug like this. You can try these steps in the staging site.

a) Backup your site first[Mandatory]
b) Switch for a moment to a WordPress default theme like 2025
c) Deactivate all the plugins that are not related to WPML except Yoast SEO
d) Then check if the issue exists or not
e) If the issue is gone, activate the plugins as a group of three or four to find which one has an interaction issue
f) Switch back to the original theme of the site

Hi.
I did try the "https://wpml.org/errata/yoast-seo-incorrect-ogurl-meta-tag-on-translated-author-archives/"
Seems to work at first but after 24h it was suddenly in another language agian.

We have also our devsite that is a clone of current site. However the issue does not seem to happen there. ( 48h without issues ). Probably due to no traffic?

Not sure how to proceed.

Kind regards

Hello,

Thank you for the updates. Hope the live and dev sites are hosted in the same server and environments. Which hosting are you currently using?

Please check if any cron jobs are set on the server? Becuase WPML will not automatically change the values. It sounds like a compatibility conflict.

Hi.
Yes they are on the same server with a raw clone of DB and source files.
My guess is something is happening when we are working in admin gui or when a customer browsing the website.
I have tried to emulate, but me just clicking around getting the same traffic as a 24h on our regular site would be months of clicking.

No cron jobs visible in cpanel.

Hello,

Thank you for the updates. Which hosting service are you currently using? Please share more details about your current plan.

Also, please check that you are getting any error or warning related to WPML in the server error log while having this bug. May you need your hosting team's support to access the server error log file.

Hi.
We are using a swedish hosting "oderland.se".
Checked the error log and we only have a few 403 errors from bots searching our website.

Kind regards
