Background of the issue:
I am trying to get a language switcher in the English menu on my bilingual site, hidden link. I have upped the memory in config.php.

Symptoms:
I can only choose 'Dutch' in the language switcher, so it does nothing. It appears in the Dutch menu but gives no dropdown menu.

Questions:
How can I configure the language switcher to show both languages in the English menu?
Why is the language switcher not providing a dropdown menu in the Dutch menu?

Hello,

In your case, when using the Astra Theme and while having a translated menu, you can use the WPML Menu Language Switcher, which can be enabled at WPML > Languages > Menu Language Switcher:

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/#add-language-switcher-menu

How to translate menus?
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/#custom-links

The language switcher language option will only appear if the content was translated and published.

Can you please confirm if this is the case?

Best regards
Andreas

hi Andreas,

Thank you for your support.

I have been here many times also (Languages -> switcher). Not everything is yet translated to English, but at least this is: 1 product, the only blogpost & the menu. Nonetheless I do NOT get the option to choose any other menu than Dutch...

Apparently I cannot open another ticket now.

however.

I cannot, CANNOT, CAN-NOT tranlate any of my products (...) I have read the instructions. It all stops in its tracks with links. even if I were to remove them (which I do not intent to do but did try 1), this is impossible.

Very frustrated right now.

There was no language switcher option enabled at WPML > Languages.

I have now enabled the menu language switcher:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-switcher-options/#add-language-switcher-menu

Regarding products:
There is currently only one translated product:
hidden link

I further see you were trying ot translate other products. The translation will only show up after the translation is completed to 100%.

On one of the translations, you will still need to set the HTML marker. Simply mark the text, and click the marker ("Alt +1"). See screenshot.

Hi Andreas,

Thank you so much for this. I did manage to get the language switcher into the menu, at first it showed a dropdown menu with both languages but a little later only 1 language and I was unable to change that. So I am really appreciative!

However two things came up:
1. I had a working multi currency dropdown on the product page. This is now inactive, even though the box is still checked. (I unchecked and checked again in the hope it would help but it did not)
2. I cannot get my logo image on my English homepage. As follows: I tried to follow instructions as mentioned on https://wpml.org/forums/topic/logo-cannot-be-displayed-on-other-language/

According to those steps, I need the WPML Media Translation plugin to fix my multilingual logo issue.

However:

OTGS Installer does not activate in Safari nor Chrome
– The button is visible but completely unresponsive
– No error message, no console error, just no action

When I try to install WPML components manually:
– I can see the list of available WPML plugins
– But WPML Media Translation is not included in the package, even though it should be part of my account

I therefore cannot install “WPML Media Translation” in any way, and I cannot proceed with the troubleshooting instructions you provided.

Could you please check the following for me?

Whether WPML Media Translation is correctly attached to my account/license

Why OTGS Installer refuses to activate on both Safari and Chrome

Whether there is a direct download link for WPML Media Translation so I can install it manually

If there is an alternative fix for the multilingual logo issue when Media Translation cannot be installed

My site environment:

WordPress: [your version here]

PHP: [your version here]

Theme: Blossom Shop Pro Child + Astra elements

WPML version: [your version here]

Browser: Safari and Chrome (both latest versions)

Thanks in advance — this is currently blocking my ability to complete the multilingual setup.

Additional information (please keep this ticket open)

Hi again,

I’m adding important details because the issue with the multicurrency switcher not appearing on product pages is still unresolved. This is separate from the Media Translation/OTGS Installer problem, but both issues appeared in the same period so they may be related.

1. Multicurrency switcher stopped working (even though the setting is enabled)

The multicurrency dropdown (EUR / GBP / USD) on product pages previously worked correctly.
Nothing was changed in WCML, WPML, WooCommerce or theme settings before it stopped working.

– Product page Currency Switcher is still enabled
– I tried unchecking/checking it again
– No relevant configuration changes were made
– No errors appear on the page

The switcher simply no longer displays, even though it used to.

2. What I tested (based on your suggestion)

I added the currency switcher widget to the footer, even though I do not use sidebars or footer widgets:

– WP shows a “deprecated widget” warning
– The widget appears in the backend
– It does not display on the frontend
– Astra Free likely restricts widget output in the footer

But in any case:
The product-page switcher worked automatically before *without any widget*, so the widget approach should not be necessary.

3. Note about plugin updates

For completeness:

I did notice that some unrelated plugins updated recently (Yoast SEO, and possibly “Top Bar”).
However:

– The multicurrency switcher stopped working long before these updates
– These plugins have never interfered with WCML
– WPML/WCML/WooCommerce were not updated during the period when the issue began
– There is no indication that these updates caused the problem

I do not normally track every plugin update, and normally I shouldn’t need to... but I wanted to mention this in case it helps you diagnose the timing.

4. Relationship to my other issue

This problem appeared around the same time as:

– OTGS Installer not activating (Safari & Chrome)
– Missing “Media Translation” plugin (not shown in the manual package)
– Multilingual logo not showing on the English homepage

Since these issues affect different parts of WPML/WCML functionality, I suspect there may be a deeper underlying cause.

5. My request

Could you please check:

1. Why the built-in Product Page Currency Switcher no longer displays
2. If this could be linked to the Media Translation plugin missing / OTGS Installer issue
3. Whether something in WPML/WCML may have partially failed internally
4. That this ticket stays open so all related issues can be diagnosed together

I really need both the language and currency switchers working properly before I continue the multilingual setup.

Thanks again,
Tim

WPML Media Translation:
I have installed WPML Media Translation for you. You can find the addons at Plugins > Plugins toevoegen > Commercieel.

The currency switcher and OTGS Installer:
I need to run further tests. Is it possible to switch the theme and disable plugins for testing on this site?

Hi Andreas,

That is no problem, disabling the plugins and changing the theme to run tests.

The issue persists when testing only with WPML and WooCommerce, and it disappears once I switch to a different theme.

This seems to be a compatilbity issue between Astra Theme and WPML:
https://wpml.org/theme/astra/

I will try to recreate the issue on a new test site and then get back to you.

I am not able to confirm the same issue on a new test site with the Astra Theme, WooCommerce, and WPML:

I will run further tests on your site and then get back to you.

Hi,

I have now purchased Astra, so I hope a few problems will be solved due to this.

However:
1. I still cannot get the multi currency dropdown menu on the product page;
2. Even in Chrome, I cannot activate the OTGS installer. I believe this should be possible...

Thanks,
Tim Hupkes

The problem appears to occur as the current product layout does not include the product's metadata.

If I go to Customizer > WooCommerce > Single Product and enable the "Meta" inside the Single Product Structure section, it solves the issue.

In case this is not an acceptable workaround for you, please let me know, and we can take further steps from there.
