WooCommerce 3.0 is almost ready and planned to be released at the beginning on April. This version includes significant changes. We want to make sure that when you update, all your sites keep working smoothly with no problems on the front-end or admin.

Try WooCommerce Release Candidate on Staging Sites

The best way to be prepared is to test in advance. Since you’re going to use betas of different plugins, you should do this testing in a safe environment and not on production sites. We recommend creating staging/development sites for your different client sites and testing on them.

WooCommerce Multilingual is already updated for the upcoming WooCommerce 3.0, so there’s no beta from us.

Install:

  • The current version of WordPress itself. It’s best to go through the ‘Updates’ page and make sure that nothing requires an update.
  • WooCommerce RC1 – download from the GitHub prerelease page.

If the WooCommerce extensions that you’re using have beta versions, use them as well.

What to Test

Here are some things you should test:

  • Creating and translating products: simple, variable, grouped and other types you have set up
  • Updating existing products. Both originals and translations
  • Creating and translating product attributes
  • Updating existing products attributes
  • Creating and translating product categories, product tags and other product taxonomies your sites use.
  • Update existing taxonomies
  • Configuring options in the Multi-currency section
  • Browsing products on the front end
  • Make sure that the urls of translated products and taxonomies are still working
  • Adding products to the cart and placing orders in different languages
  • Adding products to the cart and placing orders using different currencies
  • Creating and updating orders as an administrator in the back-end
  • Using coupons
  • Using different shipping methods in combination with different currencies

Just to clarify, we are not recruiting you to be part of our QA. WPML team has been running extensive tests with WooCommerce 3.0 since the last few months (from the first betas of WooCommerce 2.7, which later morphed into 3.0). From experience, we know that our tests can never cover all possible combinations of plugins, themes and configurations.

How to Report Problems

If you run into problems, please report them in our technical support forum using the tags ‘woocommerce’ and ‘woocommerce-3-0’ and we’ll address them right away and make sure we fix whatever needs to be fixed by the time WooCommerce 3.0 is officially out.

Leave a comment here with links to these threads, so we can track what you’re reporting and follow up until it’s all good.
