This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
You are working on a site under development and have used manual translation for web page translation. However, all the Chinese translations were automatically updated to English, and the entire text could not be translated.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend you adjust your WPML settings to prevent automatic updates to translations. Here are the steps:
1. Navigate to WPML->Settings.
2. Set 'Do you want WPML to automatically translate all content when the Translation Editor opens?' to 'no'.
3. Set 'Do you want to translate drafts automatically?' to 'no'.
4. Go to WPML->Translation Dashboard.
5. Ensure 'Translate Everything Automatically' is set to 'No'.
After making these changes, your manual translations should no longer automatically update to English. If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, please open a new support ticket. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.
