  1. Hi

WPML has been recommended to me, as we are looking to translate content from the webro.com domain to our French site. http://www.webrofrance.fr/

We would like to translate most of what is on the UK site for use on the French site, minus a few products which we don’t sell in France. There will also be a few products that we do sell that will appear on the French site but not the UK one.

Would WPML be suitable for this use, considering we will be using 2 separate domains? If so, which version would be best?

    Thanks for your help.

    • Hi Carl, the Betheme theme was tested by our Compatibility Team so it is compatible with WPML. If you want to translate more than just pages and posts, you will need at least the Multilingual CMS subscription. You can upgrade to the Lifetime one later, if needed and you will pay the difference in cost.

  2. I have several plugins bought from YITH, I need to add hebrew language to my site which is RTL. Will I be able to localize these plugins to hebrew with WPML?

  3. Hello guys…

WPML is recommended on various sites of the internet. I am not sure which version is the right one for me, therefore I decided to ask here first.

    what i wanna do:

-add a flag symbol which is visible on each page…
-once the flag is clicked and the language is changed, the whole page will be displayed in that language, and once I switch between subpages, the language stays that way

so i don’t want my users to have to click on the flag symbol and change the language on every single site… do you understand?

also: is it possible to change the menu too, once language got changed? Will this plugin work with my BeTheme?

    thanks for your reply
    Raffael

    • Hi,
yes, this is how sites translated with WPML work – you change the language once and then when you go through different pages they appear in that language.

and yes, you can also have different menus for different languages, some items can be the same, some may vary

yes, WPML is compatible with the BeTheme theme, it was tested by our compatibility team.

  4. Hello,

I am developing a buddypress website and I would like to allow buddypress members to add data in their profile in one more language.

    1) Is that possible with buddypress multilingual or only the labels of x profile fields can be translated by admin?

    2) If yes, can I choose which data Buddypress members can translate? It is a directory of professionals and I would like for example at the field “price”, members not to add different price in one language than the other.

    Thank you,
    Ioannis

    • Hi, yes, WPML is compatible with the buddypress and to make the translation process easier for you we have developed a dedicated extension:
      https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-multilingual/

Please follow this tutorial for more on how to set and translate the BuddyPress features – http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/buddypress-multilingual/

to answer your question: 1 – yes, 2 – probably not possible, but I need to check it with the developer.

      • Hi Agnes,

Thank you so much for your immediate response!!

1)I have already read the documentation for Buddypress multilingual but I still have some questions. It says that admin can translate strings and users can switch between 2 languages but it does not clarify if the members can edit their data in both languages. Are you sure they can do that at the frontend?

        2) I use Buddyblog plugin (by Brajesh Singh) along with buddypress in my website that allows users to add posts from the frontend. After the installation of WPML and Buddypress Multilingual will they be able to add posts in both languages from the frontend or only admin can do that backend?

        Thank you,
        Ioannis

        • Hi Loannis,
          here’s what our developer say:

          1. Can users translate their data?

No, only forms are translated – not inputs from user.
BuddyPress Multilingual offers translating BuddyPress GUI.

          2. BuddyBlog plugin – can users add posts in both languages?

Depends if BuddyBlog plugin is creating posts or BuddyPress Activities.

BuddyPress Activities are not multilingual and do not have language information.
It should behave same way as if plugin was deactivated.

If plugin creates WP Posts (regular WP Post),
language information should be enabled automatically.

          • Hi Agnes,

Could it be possible a combination of WPML and automatic translation for Buddypress?
Your developer say that only Buddypress GUI can be translated and not the inputs. Could the inputs been translated automaticly and if yes how could I do that? Is there any other plugin that could work well with WPML so I can achieve full translation of Buddypress Profiles( labels & inputs)?

            Thank you,
            Ioannis

  5. Hello WPML!

I really, really want to buy the Multilingual CMS Lifetime license but $195 is not something I could afford at the moment hence I can only purchase the $79 version.

My question is, can I upgrade to $195 before my $79 expires? I think by then I should be able to afford it. Do I just pay the difference of $116 for the upgrade?

    Thank you!

    • Hi Joe,
that’s correct, you can upgrade to $195 before your $79 subscription expires – you will have 30 days to do it, we will send you two reminders, one 30 days before, the other one – a few days before your current subscription expires. And you will pay the difference only.

  6. Hello, I hired a freelancer to develop my new website. He will need to buy Multilingual CMS. He asks me to pay to him so he will buy it himself. Does it mean that if he buys it he can install it for other clients of his?

And if I decide to build another website with another webdeveloper in the future, I will have to pay 79USD again?
Thakn you very much for clarification,
    Jane

    • Hi Jane,
yes, the subscription owner can use WPML for more than one site, including sites for other customers.

Please note that only the subscription owner can access the WPML account (meaning has access to future versions and support help) so if you would like to use WPML for your other websites, please consider buying WPML on your behalf and just let your developer to use it to do his job.

    • Hi,
yes, it’s possible. If you log into your WPML account you should find a link to upgrade your annual subscription to the Lifetime. This is possible within 30 days before the current subscription expires but if you bought in October, you should see that link already.

  7. Hello,

I’m upgrading a client’s website, and I’m using DFDevelopment’s Ronneby theme to do so. I noticed they have a WPML functionality built into the theme, but I do not see the Ronneby theme listed as WPML compatible on your website.

Is this an omission on your part, or is there something you can shed light on?

    Keith

    • Hi Keith,
not all theme authors share their themes with our Compatibility Team to test it. If a theme is tested by our team, it means that every single element of the theme is ready to be translated to other languages, including more “demanding” elements, such as theme custom options etc. In your case I expect most of the elements to be translated without any issues, so I would give it a try. In case you are not satisfied, your can use our refund policy to receive your money back. Just remember to finish your testing within 30 days.

  8. Hello WPML!

I’m really interested in buying the life time license but unfortunately I can’t afford to pay $195 right now so I will need to settle for the $79 version.

My question is, can I upgrade my $79 version to life time license $195 before my $79 license expire? Do I just pay the difference? I think I can afford to pay more in a few months time. Thank you

    • Hi Joe,
I have just answered your question. Sorry for the delay, we don’t work on weekends. Let me say it again: yes, you can upgrade later and you will pay the difference in cost only.

    • Hi Nathan,
thanks for contacting us with this idea. My colleague Marine Larmier will contact you directly to share exchange the details.

    • Hi,
no, the Multilingual CMS package includes all multilingual plugins we developed. The might be a few plugins we are the authors of that are not included in the CMS package, but they can be found in WP official repository, like this one:
      https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-multilingual/

You pay extra only if you would like to translate your contents by professional translation services we cooperate with.

    • Hi,
it depends on how complex is your website. With the blog version you will translate posts, pages, categories, tags, menus but for example you won’t translate custom options of your theme. Please note that you can upgrade from the Blog version to the CMS version anytime and you will pay the difference only.

    • hi, thanks for your answer.

what I want to show people is the main page with the info related to our services, who are we and so on. So, according to what you have said before in my first requeriment I think the $29 VPML pluggin would be useful. However I am providing you my website adress for checking and confirming it.

      Regards,

Liseth from Colombia. By the way, where are you located? which Country? thanks, have a good day.

      • Hi again,
yes, your site looks simple enough to get started with the Blog subscription. We are a remote company, you can read more about us here.

  9. I’m currently using Woocommerce and I need to know if WPML will allow me to pick and choose my products based on the country/language that a user selects.

    • ok I see how do this but is there a way to do it in bulk fashion such as the product category level. I have a category of products that I only want to show if the user selects a specific language.

      • Hi again,
WPML doesn’t translate automatically so if you want to display some of your products in another language, it would be good to translate at least the product title and description. Otherwise, it doesn’t make much sense, does it?

But instead of translating products it is also possible to duplicate them which means that duplicated products will appear in another language but it will be the same copy as the original one. So when you edit the original, the duplicate also changes.

To answer your question, WPML allows you to filter your products by category in your admin to easily find products that need translation. But still you will need to enter this translation manually.

  10. We are interested in WPML CMS version, However before purchasing we would like to know what data will be included in the invoice. Is it possible to get standard VAT invoice with proper VAT ID .

  11. I am building my first ML site with WP and considering using WPML. Before I purchase I need one clarification.

I have the following custom type (using CPT UI and ACF Pro):
    Companies
    – Name
    – Logo
    – Description

Name and Logo will be identical across all countries. After I have set up English, I would duplicate it to become French. Can Name and Logo be set up so that if I go back in and edit English, the content for Name and Logo would be copied over to French automatically without having to manually copy the content – all while the Description field remains independent in each language?

Basically I want to be able to set up only certain fields as being translated on a per-language basis.

    Thanks.

      • Thank you for the reply. Just to confirm, after I “Translate Independently” to edit the description in French. Then if I go back into English after this and update the logo, will that updated logo also be in the French version? Or once I “Translate Independently” does it cut the connection with original English source?

        • Hi Louis,
yes, it cuts the connection which means that these two copies will have their own versions of the string (one per language) but of course, WPML will still remember that one is the translation of the other.

Translating logo is different. And the details depend on what kind of image it is – an image hardcoded in your theme header.php file, or an image you set in your theme settings, or in a page/post directly. Most probably you will need to use the String Translation module (additional plugin available in the CMS or Lifetime package) to translate your logo.

          • I am sorry, I don’t mean to be daft but this is just not making sense. The logo is a field on the page. The page has 3 fields (nothing to do with hardcoding or header.php). Once translation happens and there is a copy in both English and French. When an editor goes into the English page and update the Logo field, will this updated logo value (field) be reflected on the French page or do they have to update the field on both pages?

  12. Hi there, I am a freelancer. If I buy a Multilingual CMS account, could I use it on multiple websites for multiple clients? Or I would have to buy it for each client’s project? Thank you.

  13. Hi, I work for a tour operator in South Africa and we have tours on our website listed in various currencies, mostly in Euro, US Dollar and South African Rand, does your plugin support multi currency listing and if so does it update the rates throughout the site when one changes the exchange rate? My reason for asking is that the WordPress theme I am buying says that your WPML supports multi currency but I do not see it on your web site. Thanking you in advance for your help in this matter.

  14. Hi,
I followed all the instructions to Upload the folder wpml-widgets to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory. Activated the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress. Now i see my website both in italian and English. That’s good!
I downloaded wpml plug in and activate it but the panel told me “Hey, I see WPML is not activated, please activate it before using WPML Widgets.”
I would like only to test the plug in and verify if I can make changes from pages.
    How can i do?

  15. What is the suggested solution for dealing with non-content text on a site running WPML? For example “Submit” on a form field.

  16. Hallo,
I want to buy the WPML Multilingual CMS Lifetime.
I indicate that I buy it as company based in Romania, I indicate my VAT number, but it does not show me the price without VAT, how it should normally be, when the ‘inverse VAT’ is applied.
Thank you very much for a short reply,
    With best regards,
    Ulrich

    • Ok, so our developers say that the reverse charge is only applied if the VAT number of the client is registered as a business in the EU. You can check it here:
      http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/

Could you please check and let me know if your VAT is valid?

Please note that not all VAT numbers are registered in the EU system and we can only consider the ones there register to apply the reverse charge.

      • Hallo Agnes,

thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, my company is definitely registered.

I have ordered meanwhile WPML and I have paid the amount of 184.58 Euro (see copy of transaction information below after my signature…)

So in fact then I should have paid only 153.81 Euro as the VAT in Romania is actually 20 %. However there did not appear any option during the purchasing process. The ‘reverse VAT’ just was mentioned, it was not applied. ???

Thank you very much for further advice,

        With best regards,

        Ulrich

  17. Hi. I’m interested in buying the Multilingual CMS solution. But first, I need to understand something – what does the UNLIMITED under Websites mean? (on the page that describes the three versions of WPML). does it mean I will be allowed to use your plugin on an unlimited number of websites? It sounds clear enough but I just want to make sure.
    Thank you,
    Andreea
