  1. Hi,

I will be using WPML for the first time and I couldn’t find some information in help & documentation pages. It will be very helpful if my doubts are cleared before purchasing.

My site will be in three languages – English, Hindi & Gujarati. Only front end of the website need to have the language options, not WordPress back end. WordPress back end will only be in English. Does WPML directly support Hindi & Gujarati languages out of the box?

All contents including menu terms are all translated manually & ready to deploy. I do not have any idea about .po & .mo files – I learned these terms from documentation.

I am using Divi theme from Elegant Themes. This site will not be an WooCommerce site and no custom fields will be used.

    Best regards.

  2. Hello,

I am interested in purchasing the CMS lifetime option and am wondering if it is possible to have someone their install it for me. I run a recipe site, and I see that there are slightly more technical issues with making sure the recipe plugin is translated, too.

Thank you (and Happy New Year 🙂 )

    Mary

  3. Hey there!

Do you have a “developer” license of WPML?

I’ve developed some websites previously and are looking to buy WPML for one of my clients, but would prefer buying a license that grants me use on several, separate websites/customers. Is such a license available at all?

    Best,
    Johan

    • Hi Johan,
all our licenses/subscriptions work as you expect. You need to buy only one WPML subscription and use it for all the sites you build.

      • Awesome, thanks Agnes! If I buy the Multilingual CMS now, can I at a later time upgrade it to a lifetime license when I gotten OK from the customer?

  4. I have what I believe to be a simple question and wondering if your plugin will help. If so, how exactly will I accomplish it using your plugin.

I would like to change the words “group” & “groups” to the word “space” and “spaces” in my buddypress site. Could this be done with your plugin and if so, how hard is it to accomplish this?

    Thanks

    • In the meantime I contacted our developer – the author of the plugin. He says it’s possible but will require some additional steps.
You would need to use the WPML String Translation plugin to achieve your goal.

These strings appear in various places, usually in gettext calls such as:
      _e( ‘Edit Group’, ‘buddypress’ )

      Here are steps:

      1. Install WPML with English set up as your default language
      2. Scan Buddypress plugin with the WPML plugin scanner
      3. Add your custom language
      4. Translate strings to your custom language using the WPML String Translation (replace ‘group’ with ‘space’)
      5. Set custom language as your default language
      6. Hide your English language
      7. Translate to other languages if necessary

  5. what happens when I would choose to have a site which is partially translated? is it possible to have the translation buttons only available for parts of the site?

    • Hi Jo,
yes, this is possible. WPML allows you to translate only certain pages as well. In WPML setting you will find the following options:
How to handle languages without translation
      – Skip language
      – Link to home of language for missing translations

  6. Hello! If I buy the Multilingual CMS now, can I at a later time upgrade it to a lifetime license when I gotten OK from the customer?

  7. Hello,

I bought the subscription June 2015 but didn’t have to use it so I did not renew it. Now I need it but I can’t see where to order it with the reduced fee for continuing the subscription.

  8. Hi!
I’am going to renew my Bed and Breakfast site, right now is in joomla, I do all the translations manually, and I’m the only one managing the site. Do you think that the blog version of wpml would be enough for me?

    Thanks
    Beppo

  9. Hello,
I develop my site in 2 languages – English and Bulgarian. The theme I use (BuildPress – Construction Business WP Theme) is originally in English. I would like to use WPML for Bulgarian translation.
Does WPML have an option to switch default languages, for example to set Bulgarian in default?

    • Hello,
yes, you can set any non-English language as the default one as well. So when you install WPML pick Bulgarian as your primary language and then add English.

  10. Hello,
Could I use the same license in both my test and live site?
I suspect this is a question commonly asked, but I could not find a search field in this space…
    Thanks in advance,

    • Hello,
yes, you can. You need to buy only one WPML subscription and you can use it for all of your websites (both for you and your customers).

  11. I’ve created a membership website created with the AR-member plugin. Accounts are activated by the user confirming an email which is automatically generated by the plugin. I can edit the response. I’d like to be able to send a response based on the users selected language. Can WPML make the translation in this case? If it’s not possible do you have any advise
    Thanks

  12. If we purchase the 79$ Multilingual CMS package for 1 year do you deduct that amount if we decide to purchase the lifetime 195$ package afterwards? Tnx.

  13. Hello,

I am looking for a plug-in to show on my page a German and English version. The customer should choose in the menu if he want to see the Englisch or German version of my page.
    My Theme: Ample von ThemeGrill
I use the Page Builder by SiteOrigin on the German pages.
I have my own translations in English so I don’t need any support or automatically translation.

Can I use your plug-in for this and which one should I buy?

    Regards
    Julia

    • Hello Julia,
thanks for your interest in WPML.

      To answer your questions:
“customer should choose in the menu if he want to see the Englisch or German version of my page”

You will achieve this by displaying a language switcher. WPML will create it automatically based on the languages of your sites. In WPML setting you just need to choose where you want your language switcher to appear.

      “My Theme: Ample von ThemeGrill”
On the theme’s site they say this theme is fully compatible with WPML but it wasn’t tested by our Compatibility theme.
      https://themegrill.com/themes/ample/

“I use the Page Builder by SiteOrigin on the German pages.”
This documentation will help you to understand how you translate page built with page builders.
      https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/page-builders/

“I have my own translations in English so I don’t need any support or automatically translation.”
Perfect. WPML doesn’t translate automatically anyway.

“Can I use your plug-in for this and which one should I buy?”
Yes, you can. You will need either the “CMS” or “Lifetime” subscription. You can start with the CMS one and upgrade to the Lifetime later, for the difference in purchase price.

  14. Hello! We’re using woocommerce to sell products to customers across the globe but focus mainly on Japan. Our dropshippers are located in India and other countries as well.

We are facing a translation challenge. The customer orders are in Japanese and the dropshippers cannot understand it – so it has to be translated to English.
Once fulfilled the invoice from the dropshipper (in English) should be translated to Japanese.

Please let me know if WPML can help us with this issue.

    Thank you!

  15. I have purchase WPML, But I have not gotten an email with the login details.
My order number is 1177915 , This was done 3 days ago. It says “Your order is on-hold until we confirm payment has been received. ” But I checked my bank account and I have been already billed. Please send login info. Thank you

  16. Hi there,

I am looking to have a site in multiple languages ( German, Dutch and Swedish). It isn’t possible for me to give access to the translator to the back end so they can translate the site.

Rather than have each section translated individually within wordpress. Is there a way for me to just upload a PO files for the different languages.

    Thanks

    Ozzy

    Zaheer

    • Hello,

Yes, you translate the strings coming from your PO files using WPML.

But please note that using PO files is not enough – you won’t translate everything using PO files (just the strings hardcoded in your theme and plugins). I guess you need to translate the contents as well.

      You have the following options:
      – create user accounts for your translators with limited privileges
      – Send your content to your own translators via XLIFF files. WPML Translation Management module helps you here.
      Please find the details here
      https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-desktop-cat-tools/configuring-xliff-file-options/
      – Send your content to a professional translation. Completed translations appear automatically in your site. No manual work is needed

  17. Hi WPML,
I need to create a website for a client, but for two languages I need somebody 1) translate Polish and Bulgarian 2) place it into the site, rewriting the page titles and corresponding SEO details (by Yoast) titles, description etc.

As I don’t have a clue what I see, I prefer the leave this part to a native. Can you also offer these services, I hope so 🙂

    Thanks MIke

ps. yes I will add soon our latest new themes and plugin um-switcher, were having a lot on our hands right now. ( in the past you made my life easy, I just send you our theme zip file and days later you tell me: Mike all is alright and we have your site included.

    http://www.themedutch.com

    • Hi Mike,
yes, WPML is integrated with a number of professional translation services so you can send your contents to one of them. Please check the details here:
      https://wpml.org/documentation/content-translation/

WPML works well with the SEO by Yoast and the professional translators can also translate these (if needed).

referring to your “ps.” note – you mean checking your theme for WPML compatibility? Yes, the queue is longer now since there are hundreds of themes that want to be WPML compatible. We have a dedicated team (a few full-time developers) woking on this.

  19. Hello,

I have a few questions, before buying WPML:

    1. Is WPML compatible with WordPress 4.6.2 ? We use theme http://arlo.select-themes.com/

    2. I have translations in 24 languages, is any possibility to make a simple import?

    3. What about installation? Is it possible to install it via WP plug ins? If not is it difficult to do for non developer?

    4. Is it possible to have blog page in few languages and disable it others languages?

    Will be waiting for answers
    Thanks

  20. Having a multi-language website suggests that you have polyglots actually working for you who speak those languages, at least from the standpoint of your potential customers.

So, you—as the I.T. geek—have translated your Gravity Form in WordPress into five different languages, allowing people from all over the globe to ask pre-sales questions in those languages. Is there something that takes the submitted form data, runs it through a foreign-language-to-English translation before emailing the query to our Sales department?

Otherwise, I’d just creating a support nightmare: 1) sales person gets query from Japan at 8PM, 2) they shoot me—the I.T. guy—a panicked support ticket at 9PM asking me to translate this since they don’t understand Japanese and they’re not smart enough to just copy/paste it into Google…

    • Hi Michael,
to answer your question – no, there is nothing like this. If you send anything to translation services you need to wait to get it back.

      • Then I’d suggest that it’s not a holistic solution yet. Your average recipient for a website query isn’t empowered nor is techie-enough to translate the inbound messages in foreign languages.

Why not work up a blog entry in which you show the website geek then how to exercise Google Translate’s API before forwarding the outbound email to the salesperson?

  21. this is a bug report cause i cannot report in technical support .
in user_edit.php when you try to edit this option:
Set admin language as editing language.it won’t make any effect if your are editing a user that is not you.
solution is to change the function called ‘wpml_show_user_options’ with the following:-
    function wpml_show_user_options() {
    global $sitepress,$user_id;
    $user = new WP_User($user_id);
    $user_options_menu = new WPML_User_Options_Menu( $sitepress, $user );
    echo $user_options_menu->render();
    }
