  1. We use a lot of images with texts, mainly feature banners, so we need to translate more than just text. We also need to show images in different languages. Does WPML have any option to show the translated images in each language? For example, we will create the same feature banner in several languages. We need they show in the appropriate language the user selects.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards.

    • Yes. With WPML, you get separate pages per language. So, you can edit these pages and provide different graphics per language too. Many clients do exactly what you’re describing and it works fine for them. If you have hundreds of images that require localization, I suggest to automate this, so that you don’t need to keep track manually of the different images. Our support folks will help you use WPML API functions, so you can tailor a solution to match your needs.

  2. I am using the plugin WP courseware from Fly plugins to run my online courses. Will wpml be able to translate the content from this plugin?

    Thanks

  3. Hello,

I want to build a 3 language site. The shop page should display only those products of the selected language. Default language will be ENG. So when I choose GER in the menu, then only the German products will be displayed in the shop excluding products in other languages. Only some products have double or triple language versions. But only the selected one should appear
    Is that possible?

    • Hello Deniz,
yes, if your online store is based on WooCommerce, it is possible to achieve what you described using WPML and the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin. Either the Multilingual CMS ($79) or Multilingual CMS Lifetime ($195) subscription is required. Please check details here.

  4. Hi!

My wordpress theme is translated into French, but a few words are not translated.

Can I translate the strings of the primary language?

The languages I want to use:
    – French (primary)
    – English
    – German
    – Spanish
    – Portuguese
    – Italian

    Thank you!
    David.

    • Hi David,
it depends on the theme you are using. If it is WPML compatible you will be able to translate all of your strings. Please use this list to check if your theme has been tested by our theme.

  5. Hello,

I have a website on one domain. Now I would like to translate content and I need this content to be visible on another domain (but same WordPress instance). I’m also using WooCommerce. Can I do this with WPML? Regards

    • Hello Matt,
“yes” to all of your questions. If you want to use WPML along with WooCommerce you need to either buy the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin. Either the Multilingual CMS ($79) or Multilingual CMS Lifetime ($195) subscription.

  6. I want to purchase the “Multilingual Blog” plugin… but i have items in my site that has to be converted into different languages… will this package allow me to convert the items and its content in other languages???

    • Hello, it depends on what specific items we are talking about. The “Multilingual Blog” version allows you to translate some basic items such as posts, pages, menu items, categories, tags and the like. If your items come from a theme you will need the “CMS” package and also it is recommended choosing a theme that has been checked by our Compatibility Team to make sure you will translate all of your strings without issues.

  7. Hi,

I am using Avada and keen to buy the plugin but can I check if I purchase the WPML Blog for 1 wordpress site, would I be able to do the following? Or do I need the WPML CMS version?

1- Customize the translation of the auto-generated content translation
2- Translate content of Fusion Builder and Visual Composer
3- Translate menus and site title

    Thanks

    • Hello Zats,
WPML works with the Avada theme but you need at least the “CMS” package (the “Blog” subscription is not enough)
      1. WPML doesn’t translate automatically. You provide your translations.
      2. Yes, you can.
      3. Yes, you can.

      • Thanks Agnes, is there any way we can generate the translation from third party tranlsator program? Do we need to do translation everytime we add new content in?

        • You don’t need to translate everything, you can translate only some of your pages, if that makes sense for your specific case. WPML allows you to translate only some of your pages and to redirect for homepage for these that weren’t translated, no problem.

WPML doesn’t have any option to autogenerate translations from third party applications. The purpose of having a multilingual site it to attract organic traffic and the best way to achieve it is provide content translated by humans which will be very appreciated by Google and other search engines.

  8. Hi,

I want to buy the Multilingual CMS Lifetime, because i am having problems translating this website with any oher plugin. But i would love to try a demo version, i need only one day, to understand if it will be good for what i need.

    Can i test it first?

    Thank you in advance, Lorena

    • Hello Lorena,
thank you for your interest in WPML. We don’t have any demo versions but you can buy and test WPML without any risk for 30 days. If it turns out that for any reason WPML doesn’t meet your needs, all you have to do is to fill out this form and we will return your money. Please note that during that probation period you can ask technical questions on our support forum.

  9. Dear Agnes,

May I have one question please.

Can I use the plugin on more domains and on more hosting/sites the plugin with one purchase(Lifetime access). Or I need to buy every time the plugin?

    Awaiting for your reply,
    Take care,

    Peter

    • Dear Peter,
no, you don’t need to buy the plugin each time. You buy it once and you can use it for all the sites you build.

  10. Hi, there I will repeat my question again that was deleted, Can I translate into several languages a forum too or do I need to cross-posting addon to do so?

    Thanks a lot.

I look forward to hearing from you

  11. Hi,

I´m building a store using WooCommerce and Shopstar template. Is it possible to translate text in the template? Also, I need 3 different language versions, but one common stock.

  12. Greetings,
If I buy the plugin and then need to upgrade do I pay a prorated price?
forgive me, you have probably answered this question and it is buried somewhere on your site. I looked in your FAQs and did not see an answer.

    • Hi Eric, if you buy the “CMS” ($79) subscription now and you decide to upgrade to the Lifetime one later, you will pay $116 instead of $195. I hope it helps.

    • Hi Carlos, I’m not sure what you mean by “popup tool”. Please explain. WPML allows you to translate your posts and pages (and all other WordPress elements) to diffrent languages on your WordPress backend. It doesn’t translate automatically. Once your content is translated, your visitors will access it using a language switcher (a dropdown with flags).

      • Hi,

I just wanted to know is:

Suppose I have a popup plugin .. will I be able to have a different pop up for each language?

        Thanks

  13. Hi,
I am interested in buying the multilingual cms lifetime package, however have one enquiry before buying the package.
Can the system be deployed just to a specific page and not the whole site? Thus, when someone is on that page, they see the “translate now” button?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Sher

    • WPML works on the entire site and not “per page”. When you activate WPML, it will add languages to your site. Each piece of content will then have a language. If you want, you can translate only specific pages. Even on our site, we have some pages only in English and some pages with full translations.

If you don’t translate a page, it will display in its original language but not in other languages.

      Does this help?

  14. Hi
One of the theme that I use, provide PO files for the translation of their theme. I customize the theme quite a bit and there will be some additional strings need to be translated. Can I use their PO files and add additional translations for the theme files easily? There is not much instruction about PO files on your documentation. Then, I can translate the post contents after importanting/loading PO files, right?

    Thanks

    • Yes, you can do this with WPML. WPML’s String Translation can read existing translations from your theme (.po and .mo files). From that point, you can edit translations conveniently in WPML’s GUI.

  15. For now ours needs are simple. We have >100 blog posts, but only a few of those are translated. E.g. 2 in German, 1 other post in Chinese, 3 other posts in Spanish, etc.

So what we want, for now, is 1) an easy interface to create these post translations, and 2) to have a separate archive-type page where we link to all translated posts.

Meaning that what we do NOT want is for the entire site to change language when someone views a translation. This is what qTranslate-x did, and it was overkill for our site. We want the entire site to remain unchanged, in English, except for the fact that we can link to translations.

We also ONLY want a post’s translation to exist when it actually has a translation. qTranslate-x would create a translated version for each and every post in each enabled language, and when no translation was available they would link to the English version at the translation’s URL. But these non-existing translations would also be indexable, accessible posts, which again is overkill for our simple goals.

Would WPML be able to do what we want, or would it also overshoot our goals?

    • WPML lets you translate exactly the content that you need and doesn’t force you to have translations for everything.

If something is not translated, it will not appear in that language. Only translated content appears in each language. You can see this happening on our site. Our blogs in other languages include only part of the posts that the English blog has (we should really translate more). For example, this is our Spanish blog:
      https://wpml.org/es/noticias/

Translated content will always have links between different languages. Content that isn’t translated will not have these links.

      • A related, although opposite, question – is it possible to configure WPML to show English content when a translation is not available?

I’m specifically thinking of blog posts – on our Spanish site, when someone clicks on “Blog”, I’d like them to see the list of ALL our recent blog posts… in Spanish when possible and in English when NOT translated.

        • For individual pages/posts WPML provides an option to duplicate it. It means that the content of the original post will be displayed. This way you can see the same content for pages in diffrent languages. However, we don’t recommend mixing contents of different languages on the same page (even if technically it is possible), as in your example on the blog index page since it won’t be welcomed by Google and other search engines. For those it is important to determine the language of each page and they do so by analysing the page content.

  16. Hello.

I am unable to do a purchase when I am logged in to my account. I have tried multiple browsers, clearing the cache and cookies but the same error ; ” ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS”

    Best regards Jørn

  17. Hi –

We’re pitching a multilingual website to a client tomorrow, and we’d like to show them a demo so they can see how easy it is to translate content.

Is there a private demo of the WPML plugin in action? We’ve seen the demo video, but we were hoping there might be an actual WordPress install that we could show our client on the day.

If no such demo exists, do you have any other resources that we could use to help win the job?

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

    • Hi Jeremy,
we don’t have such a demo (since our refund policy allows you to test WPML (with your own configuration) for 30 days without any risk) but if you really want to see WPML in action you can consider using one of our demo sites for Toolset plugins. For example, when you create this site http://discover-wp.com/site-types/refsite-theme-layouts/ please choose an option to make it multilingual. WPML plugin will be installed.

  18. Hi,
I am trying to buy a lifetime account of wpml.org but I can not finish the payment neither with paypal nor two different credit cards.
Can someone lend me a hand?
    Thanks.

    • Hello, could you please provide more info? For example where exactly did you get stuck, with what message etc? I can see other orders are processing fine so everything seems to work on our end.

  19. Hello,

    I have a pre-purchase question.

I have a website (in the workings) that has manual product pages (so not woocommerce or so, I manually create every product on their own page).

It’s like an information page about every product.

As every page is going to have the exact same layout, like name, information, photos, videos, etc, is is possible to duplicate a “template” (the main setup I use for every product) and have that translated without having to do it over and over again? And then only add in the information that differes per product like the name and information?

    Regards,

    Collin

    • I’m using visual composer by the way :).

So I have this visual composer template I use for every product, and only fill out the details that differ per product.

The rest can be automatically translated every time I create a new instance of this template, is that possible?

    • Hi Collin,
technically it is possible to achieve but first you need to create these templates either with other plugins or with using PHP. Once the template is ready, you can translate it using WPML. If you are not a programmer, you can create such a template using our Toolset plugins. Toolset plugins are fully compatible with WPML.

      • Hello,

        thanks for the reply :).

I have it saved as a page, and whenever I add a new product, I just “duplicate / copy ” this page, and fill in the product details.

Should that be good? I can also save it as a visual composer template I guess.

  20. Hi,
We have a website using the Jack & Rose Theme for WordPress which is apparently compatible with WPML. Will the $29 version of WPML suffice?

    Many thanks,
    Carlos

    • Hi Carlos,
the Jack & Rose Theme wasn’t tested by our Compatibility Team (here’s the list of themes that were tested) so you might have issues with translating some of elements provided by this theme. Usually, you need the “CMS ($79)” subscription to translate a website that uses a theme checked by our team. But you can buy the Blog subscription first and it it turns out that you need some extra WPML modules to translate other strings you can upgrade to the CMS version and you will pay the difference.

  21. Will WPML support language changes and content between English and American?

Both countries have very different needs with regards to content and we need the ability to detect which country the user is from and display the correct content. e.g. if they are from New York then the American page is displayed, if they are from London the English page is displayed.

    • Hi Bryan,
WPML lets you configure a few English languages if needed, you just need to use diffrent codes (e.g. en-US). Please note that WPML doesn’t automatically translate your content. You provide content in diffrent languages. WPML has an option (it’s disabled by default but you can enable it in WPML settings) to detect your user’s language set in his/her browser and redirect the user to the relevant language version accordingly.

      • Thank you Anges for your quick reply.

Just to confirm that WPML will detect the difference between en-US and en-GB and display different content?

Other systems I have used only use the first part of the code, ie en and ignore the second half.

can you confirm that WPML looks at all the language tab to determine the page to be displayed?

  22. Hi, does this work with Flatsome theme? I have a shop set up but need to have a second language option, the shop uses woo commerce. Please let me know.

    Thanks Shaun

    • Hi Shaun, the wasn’t tested by our Compatibility Team. It means you can have some issues when translating custom elements introduced by this theme but you should translate all basic stuff (posts, pages, categories, menus, etc) without problems. You can also translate your WooCommerce products. You will need to have at least the “CMS ($79)” subscription since it includes additional WPML plugins that are needed to make a store multilingual. You will find details here.
