Without more details its hard to tell.
The strings need to be enclosed in gettext functions, in other words, prepared for translation.
The String Translation add-on will pick up the strings and let you translate them.
If you find out it doesn’t work for you, you can always ask for a refund within 30 days.
I’m considering buying WPML CMS, but I want to be sure that it will do 3 things in particular:
i) Will it translate the side bar widgets in different languages e.g. recent post etc.
ii) Will it allow me to have different social media icons/channels for each different language
iii) Can I set a user to only access and edit posts for one language
Thanks!
Hi! Does WPML directly translate word for word or content for content? Right now we have a free translator that translate word for word and that usually creates more confusion as languages can not be interpreted correctly. Also is WPML compatible with our website?
I have a site in English and German. Default language is English. I will translate all pages into German but I do not want to translate any posts. They will stay in English.
My question is: can WPML display the blog posts (in English) on a German language page (i.e. with menu and text – other than blog posts — appearing in German)?
And, can it do so without me having to duplicate the posts into German. I don’t want to have to add a “translation” of a post that is not really translated.
If I go the route of creating a non-translatable custom-post type, will I be able to pull the English posts onto a German page and still have the navigation etc in German?
No you can’t use the blog version to translate the strings, you need to buy the CMS version of WPML.
Please have a look at this page: https://wpml.org/purchase/ it explains the main differences between the two offers.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I’d be very happy to help.
For the “Translation for Theme and Plugin Texts” feature, when using translateable strings in a plugin, do these changes persist whenever the source plugin is updated?
Example: We use Plugin A, which updates every week or so. Using WPML, we translate the phrase “Hello world” in Plugin A to German. Would we need to redo this every time Plugin A is updated, or will WPML remember this string, provided the plugin doesn’t change core related “Hello world”?
I bought wpml for 79 dollars use it for 1 website but I can see for website usage is unlimited. I want to use the same purchase I’d for my new website. How can I do that ?
Hello Derick,
You are welcome to register WPML on as many sites as you need. Please register the new site in the same way you did it for the first one.
Hi, dear WPML team. Yesterday I tried to buy your product, I make payment but didn’t receive any information from you. My email is tigran.manukyan@mersoft.am
Hello Tigran,
I see a purchase with your mail of 3 hours ago. I just resent the mail with the credentials, in case you missed it. Please let me know if you need anything else.
Hello,
When purchasing WPML Multilingual CMS.we received following error message:
An error has occurred during checkout.
Please contact the seller and reference the error code below.
ERROR CODE:PE101
How can we proceed with the purchase?

Anders
Hello Anders,
I checked our records and there are no pending translations with your email, actually there are no records with your email. The PE101 error indicates the problem with a credit card. Maybe it’s not authorized for use in the internet? Sometimes users simply use the browser back button. Please make sure you can use this credit card and try again. If it doesn’t help, please use this form to contact us: https://wpml.org/home/contact-us/contact-form/
Hi Thana,

Hi Chris,
no we don’t. But our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days without any risks. If you are not completely satisfied just fill out the form and we will give your money back, no questions asked.
As a side note, and of course I wouldn’t want to assume the (im)practicalities, but an online demo area would be would be great if that was an option you could offer in future.
Thanks Chris,
it’s not as easy as it seems to be since what our customers expect is to test WPML in their environment/configuration, which means with their theme and plugins. The interface for translating pages and posts is easy and works the same for all sites. And you can see it in the video. If you would like to see the basic options in action, please use this link: http://discover-wp.com/site-types/refsite-theme-layouts/ then Create site and then check “The site will be multilingual”. This is the demo of our Toolset plugins but it uses WPML as well. I hope it helps.

So now I need to buy a full price licence 🙁
Anyway you could send me a link to renew my licence at the discount price please? That would be soooo nice :-))
Hello,
your WPML subscription expired almost a month ago. For users who missed their renewals we offer an upgrade to the Lifetime at a reduced price ($116). You can also upgrade for $79 for one more year. You will find all these options in your WPML account – you can still log into your WPML account and you will find the links there.
We are considering using WPML to provide a client’s website accessibility in the country of China. One important question we have:

Hi,

Hello Porter,
WPML does not make automatic translatins. You can see here how it works https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/.
Kind regards,
Is danish supported?
Hello Claus,
WPML supports all languages, including Danish of course. NOTE: it does not make automatic translations https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/
I changing the vehicle catalogue to use woocommerce on http://wheelchairvans.ca
English page is fine:
https://www.wheelchairvans.ca/product/dodge-grand-caravan-2017-16-112-by-savaria/
This is the french page:
https://www.wheelchairvans.ca/fr/product/dodge-grand-caravan-2017-stow-n-go-17-047-par-savaria/
There is an issue when toggling back and forth with the languages. Just click on the English link in the top menu.
How to I translate attribute names such as Conversion, Exterior Colour, Status, and Engine?
How can I translate elements on the page that I have set myself in the template such as Details and Options?
I appreciate your help.
Dan
It looks like you are missing “WooCommerce Multilingual”, the glue plugin that makes WPML & WooCommerce work well together. You have complete documentation over here, including required plugins:
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
If you have any problems or questions please post them to our support forum:

Our support team will reply as soon as possible.

It is true that posts and pages are translatable by default and you can’t change this.
The best solution is to create duplicates with WPML, you can do it in batches and they are updated automatically. Its all explained here in detail:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-using-content-duplication/
You could also create a new custom post type for your blog posts and keep it non-translatable.
Thanks David,
that is helpful.
How will the fact that there is duplicated content (e.g. two blog posts which are the same but with a slightly different URL like http://www.site.com/post and http://www.site.com/de/post affect SEO?
If I go the route of creating a non-translatable custom-post type, will I be able to pull the English posts onto a German page and still have the navigation etc in German?
1) According to Google this is not a problem:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/182192?hl=en#3
2) Yes, you should be able to see it in both languages.

Where can I find the list of languages?
Hi Juan,
here’s the list of pre-defined languages:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/pre-configured-languages/
Please note that if your language is not included in the pre-configured list of languages, you can always add it yourself:

Hi Wendy,
yes, you can also use WPML plugins to switch currencies (provided your online shop is based on the WooCommerce plugin).
