not a wordpress specialist, but does the plugin work with a recognition of the browser-language someone uses? So if someone from germany enters the site they get the german language instead of the standard (dutch) language.
Thanks and greetings,
Joris
Yes. WPML has browser language detection. It reads the language headers set by the browser and you can use that to redirect visitors to their preferred language.
I would like to know if this plugin allows to write the translation page manually. I mean, some plugins make custom types of post (like, for example, events) and they create their own page of that kind (ex. /events).
These pages are not in the pages list, nor in the posts list. I would like to know if I will be able to go somewhere and say “Page X translates to this URL” in order to be able to translate all these custom automated pages.
we are using wordpress with Sommerce theme (bought at ThemeForest) and we are using woocommerce for the store, would like to add the functionality of multiple languages and according to the plugin WooCommerce Multilingual – run WooCommerce with WPML, indicates that we buy the plugin WPML, we would like to know which of the 2 versions you offer is recommended for the combination woocomerce + wordpress + sommerce + woocommerce multilingual?
Everything between WPML and WooCommerce works fine and we’re constantly updating WooCommerce Multilingual. I’m not sure about the theme. If the theme author can work with us, we’ll test everything together. Want to refer them here? http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
thanks for response, i’ll do you suggest regarding refer autor and also, i’ll ask him about integration with WooCommerce Multilingual and WPML. So in order to do test by my self, WPML
hi, thanks for your reply, I will get in touch with the author of the theme on its support forum and ask them their collaboration, in fact, we are asking you the integration in order to be sure, but we could buy the plugin and to test concerned, if the plugin does not work with theme, apply a refund, if so, could you put the theme as tested
You can use WPML to build sites in every language you choose. It comes pre-configured with over 40 languages, and is fully localized to around 16 languages.
Hi I need to know the whether the following can be achieved with WPML; Tamil Language for domain.lk, Sinhala for domain.lk, and also English for domain.lk so anyone visiting this domain can have access to three languages. Whilst domain.com is standard with multiple languages and when chosen the appropriate language can visit the particular domain configured for the language.
In the meantime I like to also know whether we can also have for instance; Tamil is common to India and Sri Lanka so domain.in and domain.lk can share the same language so when the language is chosen as Tamil that it goes to the appropriate ccTLD as the offers in India might vary with offers in Sri Lanka. If this is possible it would be great with Jigoshop that I am trying to setup my multiple sites with country code domains for the following languages and countries.
ccTLD’s: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Europe, US and Australia.
All I need is the language to be directed to the correct domain from which the user access the site, whilst offers can be separated from country to country.
Yes, all this is straight forward with WPML. You can include as many languages as you like and have different languages on different domains, or sub-domains or TLDs. All content will come from the same WordPress install, which will respond to different domains.
Hi folks, wondering about strategy with wpml when the required translated site will have it’s own domain separate from the english one. Two different WP installs, WPMU, one WP install with some domain forwarding or .htaccess wizardry? Any insights would help?
Hi, how about if you have a logo (image) in one language, for example in italian. Is there any possibilities to change it for english version of website?
You can certainly display a different logo per language. You can wrap the logo filename in a GetText call and translate it using WPML’s String Translation, or include some if/else code in your PHP, using the constant ICL_LANGUAGE_CODE.
I have an existing woo themed site that I have translated with q translate. Looks like I definately need to use WPML as q translate hasn’t translated the features area. However I currently want to build a site for vitaminkiwi on a Hong Kong domain .com.hk.
I would like to build it in English, get people to translate it into Chinese (I see WPML can do that) but can I choose the default language to be Chinese, not English all the whilst keep an English back end.
I would also be using the woo commerce child theme and would need the commerce side in Chinese.
This should be fine. You can use any language as default language and have people translate from it to other language. People can translate between any language, not just from the default language.
And finally, WPML works smooth with WooCommerce. We are just completing now a new release of WooCommerce Multilingual. This update fixes a few new issues with WooCommerce on WordPress 3.4. It will be released tomorrow.
We have three websites for each language, we want the “colour scheme” of a theme to be different on each one but the content is on the “default” language’s website. Is this possible with this plugin?
This should be technically possible. You can use the ICL_LANGUAGE_CODE constant to load different CSS. I think that it’s easiest to achieve what you’re looking to do with just CSS changes, rather than a million if/else statements in the PHP.
Hi, we would start a project soon, which will need a specific double filter: one for a country and one for a language selection. Say a visitor from UK wants to read the site in Deutsch which is ok, but some post could be irrelevant for UK (due to different reasons). We don’t want to ban her from reading all the post she wants, just to focus her on the relevant things. Could this be done with WPML?
Thanx
You should be able to do this. I would recommend to duplicate the content to the languages that you want. WPML can do this automatically for you, with the Translation Management module.
You will choose which content to appear on all languages and WPML will duplicate it.
This will have the advantage of maximum flexibility. You can specifically choose what to duplicate. Other content, you can translate, or leave in certain languages only.
WPML notifies Google about intentional duplicate content and links to the original as cannonical, so that Google doesn’t penalize you for it.
Hi, I am looking for translation tools and found this website.
My client asked if there are any translation tools for their planned new site,
before they go with it (wordpress).
Looks good and interested but have a few questions:
Regarding the CMS package:
– Is there any additional costs other than the USD79?
From the screenshot it shows that there are quote prices for words translated.
If the answer is yes, what is the price structure?
Dont want to scare my clients with additional charges later.
– How long does it take to be translated (site announcements, site blog, general content, etc)?
– Do you cover Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Myanmar and Vietnamese language?
What are the 40 languages? (you can send me through email if it is too long to be posted here)
WPML costs $79 and translation from ICanLocalize is separate. If you need additional translation services, you can get that from ICanLocalize and you’ll find a convenient interface from WPML.
If you need professional translation, the time to translate is about 1500 words per day. Of course, this depends on the language pairs and the subject of the text.
Don’t worry about languages that are pre-configured in WPML. The languages that you listed are included. You can always define other languages in WPML’s GUI. You can enter their names, locale value and translation of the language names to other languages.
I would like to build a site that is based around country, not language. Of course each country would have it’s respective language but the primary selector would be country.
Each of these would be on a separate domain. I saw from your earlier responses how to do that with Apache.
To make things more complex, each country could have multiple languages. So for example, US would have English and Spanish, while Argentina would just have Spanish. Spain would have a different flavor of Spanish and also different legal language potentially.
Would WPML handle all of this? If we need to code, that’s not a problem, I just want to know how much is supported out of the box.
You can add your own custom languages, so it’s possible to have something like us_EN and us_ES. They would be treated as different languages in WPML, but you can create your custom language switcher that shows whatever names you prefer. Does this answer your question?
I’m working on this social network TAGGLER and I want to use several languages. This one is build with Buddypress plugin and I’m use Frisco theme. Will WPML work on it?
Do you offer support on how to install it and set it up? What if I can’t translate a specific part of the site?
I’m not sure about Frisco theme, but we also have a glue plugin for BuddyPress. You can translate any part of the site. This can be the entire site, or just parts. I offer full support for WPML. If you want more than support, you can get help from one of our partners: http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/
I work in a company that specializes in building websites. One of our clients have requested a multi-language site, to make it possible for all their partners to choses a preferded language.
We came across your plugin while researching the best way to implement this system.
One question we would like ask is – Do we get the entire plugin for 79$ or is there any payed subscription involved, another question is how much would it cost to have a paragraf translated or is that included in the payed package.
When you purchase WPML, you can use it on as many sites as you want. With your purchase, you get free upgrades and support from us for a year. To get upgrades and support after that, we charge $39 per year.
Translation is separate. If you need translation service, we provide that via ICanLocalize. Translation typically costs around 0.08 USD per word.
1. If I purchase “Multilingual Blog”, would it be possible to upgrade to “Multilingual CMS” in the future?
2. Is it possible to interlink between pages? i.e. when reading a page in English – website/just-a-page/ if you click on the German flag you will get to website/de/that-page-in-german/
3. Based on #2, can you define the page that will serve as root per language (i.e. website/de/ or website/es/ for example)?
1. Yes. You can upgrade from Blog to CMS and pay only the difference.
2. Yes. WPML does exactly this. Like you can see on that pages on our site, you can switch between languages. WPML links between translations and lets visitors choose in which language to read content.
3. WPML automatically sets this as the translation for whatever page you selected as ‘homepage’, or the ‘blog’ page.
Last question – I have around 17~ pages per language, would I be able to uninstall the current plugin and re associate the pages using your plugin without rewriting them?
I just visited Themeforest and had a look around Alyeska Theme, and then checked Theme Blvd WPML Bridege, I have a question does it going to support Hindi Language as most of my customer will be in INDIA.
I develop WordPress projects for clients, as well as plugins and themes for the WordPress public. This probably means I would be eligble for a free subscription.
Does the free subscription mean I can also use WPML for client projects, or just for public projects?
If it only allows me use it for public projects (such as free/premium (but publicly available) themes and plugins): does a normal “Multilingual CMS” subscription allow me to use WPML for client projects?
If you’re creating themes and distributing theme, on wordpress.org, for example, we’ll be happy to create a free account for you. Otherwise, if you’re doing work-for-hire, you should purchase WPML.
Thanks for your answer, however, it doesn’t really answer my question. My situation is the following: I distribute plugins on WordPress.org, which, as you say, allows me to get a free account. My question is: can I use this free subscription for client projects as well, or would I have to purchase a separate subscription?
When you build work for clients, we request that you buy WPML. You are getting paid for your work and you’ll be using WPML as a tool for that. You’ll be using our time to generate your revenue, so it would be pretty nice if we can get paid too. Right?
Last question – I have around 17~ pages per language, would I be able to uninstall the current plugin and re associate the pages using your plugin without rewriting them?
That’s up to you. WPML lets you put different languages on different domains, or subdomains or all in the same domain, under virtual directories.
You shouldn’t have duplicate content and there shouldn’t be any SEO issues. If you decide to have some same content in all languages, WPML tells Google where the original is.
Just want to know if you’re plug-in will work with contact form 7 plug-in, I mean when you fill out the form and send it the contact plug-in will generate a massage, can your plug-in translate that??

I have sent a request for a non-profit subscription, but have received no reply or even a confirmation of the sign-up. Does it take long for you to process these requests, and do you always reply – even when it is in the negative?
Hi,
I bought this theme http://themeforest.net/item/ecobiz-modern-business-wordpress-theme/238701 and am looking for a plugin that allows me to translate the whole site and not just pages and articles.
with wpml I be able to translate?
thanks
Normally, yes. It’s difficult to say about this theme, as we haven’t tested it. We can test together with the theme author. Would you want to refer the theme author to us? Send them here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
Ok thanks.
Hello,
I was wondering for my non profit organisation what the time path is for a descision about complementairy use of WPML?
regards John
Not too long. We have someone going through them.
Thx for the quick reply Amir!
I hope we hear a good message soon, our current plugin seems not to be working anymore.
Thx again for the quick reply!
regards,
John
ps are you sure somebody is working on this now? The last two days the number of handled request has not changed.

WPML is intended for manually entering translations – so you’re looking at the right place. It can handle all standard and custom WordPress content.
I’m not sure what you mean by automated pages, but if you’re looking for a tool to translate your site, WPML should be it.

Hi,
I am interested in purchasing a template from this link
http://www.templatemonster.com/demo/39256.html
but would like to also have my website as multi language,
Can you guys install your plug in if i do so, so i can translate the website
OR do you have themes with this plug in ready as a package for me to purchase instead?
and i am a beginner in web designs,
Sorry, but we’re not familiar with that theme. WPML works fine with most themes and we have support people who can help if you need any assistance.
We don’t directly offer install and configuration services. It’s pretty straight forward, but if you need that help, it’s best to ask one of our paid contractors:
http://wpml.org/documentation/support/wpml-contractors/
WPML is a plugin and sold separately from themes.

Yes. You can re-associate existing translations without having to rewrite content.
All employees at my company has business cards with qr-code with this content:

Can I use WPML to create posts with this kind of URL-structure?
I am using a fairly plain WP with the twentyelleven theme an only the WPtouch plugin for mobile access
I have been using qtranslate, but it seems to be broken now.

Yes, certainly. WPML can create language URLs such as example.com/lang, or put languages in different domains.
Hello
i have some questions before i buy the plug-in i hope you can help me with them.
do i have to make a sub-domain for every language withe your plug-in, or it will translate everything in one domain ?
and will i get any problems with duplicate content for SEO ?
thx
That’s up to you. WPML lets you put different languages on different domains, or subdomains or all in the same domain, under virtual directories.
You shouldn’t have duplicate content and there shouldn’t be any SEO issues. If you decide to have some same content in all languages, WPML tells Google where the original is.
Hello
Just want to know if you’re plug-in will work with contact form 7 plug-in, I mean when you fill out the form and send it the contact plug-in will generate a massage, can your plug-in translate that??
thx
i have some question before i buy .. i already email but i never get reply yet. would you please check and reply me soon please.
We get too much email. This is why I created this page. Can you please add your actual message here, as a comment to this page? Thanks!
i need to know my theme will support perfectly wpml or not. i never bought any theme i made my own theme. right now it is english but i will need to make two more language. so before i buy i need to know wpml will support my theme or not. i don’t want to disclose url in open place. if you want to which theme then please give me email address i can send then url for check my theme.
I have just the guide for you:
http://wpml.org/documentation/support/creating-multilingual-wordpress-themes/
It explains how to build multilingual-ready themes.
I have sent a request for a non-profit subscription, but have received no reply or even a confirmation of the sign-up. Does it take long for you to process these requests, and do you always reply – even when it is in the negative?
We’re going through that queue as fast as possible. Sorry it’s taking a little time.
