In most cases, your translated strings don’t appear on the front-end because your WP Memory Limit is set too low.

By default, WordPress sets the WP Memory Limit to 40M. However, the minimum requirement to use WPML is 128M. If you don’t increase it, translations won’t save correctly and may not appear on your site.

How can I check my WP Memory Limit?

To check your WP Memory Limit:

  1. Go to WPML Support.
  2. Scroll to the Info section and check the value of your Memory limit.

If your memory limit is below 128M, follow these steps to increase your WP Memory Limit.

How can I make translated strings visible on my site?

Once your memory limit is properly set, you can make translated strings visible on your site by deleting and retranslating them:

  1. Go to WPMLString Translation and delete the strings you translated.

Your strings should now properly appear on your site.

What if my translated strings still don’t appear?

If you still can’t see your translated strings:

  • Make sure you’re translating the correct string. In some cases, the same string belongs to different domains. If you don’t translate the correct one you won’t be able to see it on your site.
  • If you can’t find any other string with the same value, see our documentation on finding strings that don’t appear on the String Translation page to verify the string has been registered correctly.
  • Turn on auto-register strings for translation. This finds and registers all strings that appear on pages as you browse your site.
