Background of the issue:
I am working on a site under development and trying to determine if a plugin that only includes a l10n.php file but no .mo files is supported by WPML. I want to know if the translated strings will be loaded correctly for that plugin.

Symptoms:
No specific issue or error message mentioned.

Questions:
Are plugins that only include a l10n.php file but no .mo files supported by WPML?
Will the translated strings be loaded correctly for a plugin that only includes a l10n.php file?

Thank you for contacting WPML support. While you are waiting for one of my colleagues to take this ticket and work on it, let me provide you with first debugging steps or if I can perhaps help with the issue quickly.

We still don't officially support that, but we have a temporary workaround that might be useful in your situation:
https://wpml.org/errata/l10n-php-performant-default-translated-strings-not-displaying-correctly/

If that does not help, or you need additional information, one of my colleagues will soon come to continue support.

This workaround doesn't work since the plugin does not include any .mo files but only the new l10n.php format

Are you working on adding support for it already or is this something that is more long term?

Hi there,

While I cannot provide a timeframe of when a more permanent solution is provided I can confirm that it's currently an active task in our dev team's to-do list.
