Hi,

When checking category pages in a secondary language a lot of them generate a 404 error.

For example:

Working: hidden link, but when selecting German it's generating a 404.

The category has been translated see: hidden link

Permalinks have been re-saved.

please assist.

Cheers,
Jaap

Hello Jaap,
Thanks for contacting WPML Support. I will be happy to assist you in this matter.

I appreciate your effort in making the video and sharing that with us. The issue you're having is clear to me.

Based on the WPML debug info, it appears that the German language is set to "Hidden," which is likely the reason why the German category page is showing 404 error. Kindly be informed that a non logged in users will not be able to access anything that belongs to the Hidden language.

If you are unable to access the German category archive even when logged in as an admin, please do the following adjustments and check if that helps to solve the issue.

- After logging in as an admin, please go to "User > Profile"
- Scroll down to the "WPML language settings"
- Enable the "Display hidden languages" option
- Save the changes
- Resave the permalinks

Please let me know if that helps or if you need further assistance. I will be happy to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hi Prosenjit,

I'm logged in as admin and display hidden languages is enabled.
This issue is not happening with some other translate categories.

Any other ideas?

Hi Jaap,
Thanks for trying out the suggestions.

As the issue persists even after that, Could you please check what happens in a minimal environment by following these steps?

1- Deactivate all the plugins except the WPML(incl. add-ons), WooCommerce
2- Switch to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty-one.
3- Go to Settings-> Permalinks, and resave the settings.

If the issue is resolved, proceed to activate the plugins one by one, and after each activation, check whether the issue reoccurs or not. Finally, activate the original theme at last. This systematic approach will enable you to identify if any specific theme or plugin is causing the problem.

Let me know how it goes. If you need further assistance in this matter, feel free to let me know. I will be happy to help.

Best Regards,
Prosenjit

Hi,

My issue seems to be resolved. Probably some caching issue. Don't know exactly.
When it happens again I will contact WPML support.

Cheers,
Jaap
