Getting started with Crowdin and WPML

To send content for translation toCrowdin, install the following plugins on your website:

  • WPML Multilingual CMS – the core plugin
  • WPML String Translation – this plugin will allow you to translate interface strings

You can download them from your wpml.org account. If you do not have an account yet, you can create a new one by choosing WPML Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency plans.

Working with Crowdin via WPML

Here are the basic steps of working with WPML and Crowdin. For a full walkthrough, check out our page about using WPML with a translation service.

Connecting Your Website to Crowdin

First, you need to connect WPML with Crowdin. Part of this very simple process is to request your Crowdin API token.

If you don’t have a Crowdin account, you can register and create one by visiting Crowdin’s sign up page

To create a Token for your crowdin.com project, follow these steps:

Open your account > MarketplaceWPMLInstall. When installing the app, you can configure the projects and people who will set it in Crowdin. Once the app is installed, open the Crowdin project you’re connecting and click New Token -> enter the name -> copy the token.

To create a Token for your Crowdin Enterprise project, follow these steps:

Go to Marketplace → Install WPML Plugin → open the project you want to integrate → create a token.

Once you have your Token, go to the Translation Services tab on the WPML → Translation Management page.

There, enter your Token to authenticate Crowdin.
