Reported for: WPML SEO 2.1.0.1
Overview of the issue
The Rank Math SEO plugin includes an advanced setting to strip the product base from product URLs, so you might have a product display at the URL site.com/ufo-detector/ instead of site.com/product/ufo-detector/.
When using that setting it prevents WPML from automatically updating links to translations of the product.
If you have an English page which includes a link to /product/ufo-detector/, when you translate the page to Spanish the link would automatically update to the Spanish product at /producto/detector-de-ovni/.
But if you strip the product base WPML cannot detect that this is an internal link to a product, and cannot update the link to point to the translated product, in which case the original link will be left unaltered.
If you use the Rank Math setting to strip the product base, then after translating content you will need to manually edit the translations to fix the links.
Workaround
If the links in the original post use relative URLs rather than absolute URLs then the setting in WPML > Languages to “Make themes work multilingual” will handle redirecting to the correct translated products, in which case manually correcting the links in the translated pages can be avoided.
