I changed the footer on the site. WPML did not pick up the change. So, I created an entirely new footer, because WPML is a time thief. For the new footer, WPWL recognised that it existed and translated it from German (original language) to both English and French.
Problem is, only the English translation is shown, not the French one. I can see it alright in the translation editor but on the frontend it shows the German version.
Solution: I ran through the clean up steps in WPML -> Troubleshooting -> Clean Up. I then deleted the French footer.
Next, I duplicated the German footer to French by going to WPML -> Translation Management. Searched for the footer and then selected Do Nothing for English and Duplicate for French.
I then repeated that step only this time, I selected Translate for French and Do Nothing for English. I lastly went to WPML -> Translation Management and saved the French tranlsation and it displayed correctly.
