[Решено] Translating product attributes of simple products says it will generate variations

Background of the issue:
We are trying to translate products from Dutch to German on our site скрытая ссылка. We only have simple products.

Symptoms:
When translating all the product attributes, there is a button on each of the translation pages that says 'Synchronize attributes and update product variations'. Below that it says there are more than 1000 variations that will be created.

Questions:
Why does it say that more than 1000 variations will be created when we only have simple products?
Is it safe to click the 'Synchronize attributes and update product variations' button?
