Reported for: WPML Multilingual CMS 4.7.0

Resolved in: WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency 5.4.1

Topic Tags: Bug

Overview of the issue

If you have a previous WPML version and update WPML CMS before WPML String Translation and WooCommerce Multilingual, your WordPress admin will display a fatal error.

Workaround

You will need to recover WPML by deactivating the plugin VIA FTP/SSH.

We are working on a fix, and it’ll be released soon.

  1. I deleted the plugins via ftp and tried to upload the wpml multilingual cms plugin afterwards within wordpress. this caused a 406 error

    Not Acceptable

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server.

This caused my whole server to crash with all domains on it.

Any idea to re-activate the plugins? Do I have to upload the plugin-files via ftp so it works?

    • – You can deactivate WPML by renaming the plugin folder (sitepress-multilingual-cms) in …/wp-content/plugins/
      – After that you should be able to access your WordPress dashboard again
      – So you can upload the plugins in the other I mentioned earlier either from the WP dashboard or via FTP

    • Hi Simon,

The issue is that String Translation will be temporarily deactivated (since it’s outdated) when updating WPML, and that’s what is creating the issue with WooCommerce Multilingual. Could you please try to update String Translation First, then WPML and last WooCommerce Multilingual?
You can download all our plugins directly from your WPML account.

    • Hello Anna,

Here’s our recommended workflow for updating to version 4.7.1:
      – Make a full backup of your site and database
      – Start by updating String Translation to version 3.3.1.
      – Then update WPML CMS to version 4.7.1.
      – Last, update any other plugins from our suite that you may have installed.

  2. Greetings gentlemen, I’ve just created a backup as the website crashed after the update of String Translation component. Will this be addressed soon and I should hold off with any WPML updates until it’s fixed?

I do not see an option to update WPML to 4.7.1 inside the WP dashboard.

    • Hi Aleksander,

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Until we address this issue in a future release, I recommend the following workflow:

      • Make a full backup of your site and database.
      • Update String Translation to version 3.3.1 first.
      • Update WPML CMS to version 4.7.1 next.
      • Finally, update any other WPML plugins you have installed.

We are rolling out WPML 4.7.1 gradually in a phased release (to address issues like this). That’s why you will currently find it only in your WPML.org account and not in the WordPress dashboard.
