bbPress - Recent Topics Widget Not Translatable

Overview of the issue

When using WPML with bbPress, the Recent Topics widget does not display correctly in secondary languages. Even after translating forums and topics, the widget still shows content from the default language.

We have open a trac ticket under the bbPress project. You can subscribe and add your comments to follow its progress.

Workaround

Workaround 1 (Recommended):

• Edit the “Recent Topics” widget.
• In the widget settings, leave the Parent Forum ID field empty instead of using ‘any’.

Workaround 2

Please, make sure of having a full site backup of your site before proceeding.

• Open …/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/includes/common/widgets.php file.
• Look for line 678.
• Replace:

  		$settings = $this->parse_settings( $instance );
  

• With:

  		//workaround compsupp-7407
  		if ( class_exists('Sitepress')  && $settings['parent_forum'] ===  'any' )  {
  			$settings['parent_forum'] = '';
  		}
