Resolved
Reported for: إضافة WPML Multilingual CMS 4.7.0
Resolved in: WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency 5.4.1
Overview of the issue
If you have a previous WPML version and update WPML CMS before WPML String Translation and WooCommerce Multilingual, your WordPress admin will display a fatal error.
Workaround
You will need to recover WPML by deactivating the plugin VIA FTP/SSH.
We are working on a fix, and it’ll be released soon.
I deleted the plugins via ftp and tried to upload the wpml multilingual cms plugin afterwards within wordpress. this caused a 406 error
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server.
This caused my whole server to crash with all domains on it.
Any idea to re-activate the plugins? Do I have to upload the plugin-files via ftp so it works?
– You can deactivate WPML by renaming the plugin folder (sitepress-multilingual-cms) in …/wp-content/plugins/
– After that you should be able to access your WordPress dashboard again
– So you can upload the plugins in the other I mentioned earlier either from the WP dashboard or via FTP
Tried to upload the plugin-files via ftp, but even then, when trying to activate them, the site crashes
Hi Simon,
The issue is that String Translation will be temporarily deactivated (since it’s outdated) when updating WPML, and that’s what is creating the issue with WooCommerce Multilingual. Could you please try to update String Translation First, then WPML and last WooCommerce Multilingual?
You can download all our plugins directly from your WPML account.
Is there any ETA for the fix?
We are working on releasing an update ASAP, please follow our updates and announcements.
Hi, if i allready updated the plugins in the incorrect order, what should i do? i hace the wpml string plugin deactivated, to aboid crashin the site.
They are allready at the latest version, how should i proceed?
Thanks
I am sorry about this. You will need to update WPML manually: https://wpml.org/faq/updating-wpml-manually/.
We will be very happy to help you with this; if you need, please open a report in the WPML Support forum – https://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/

I see WPML 4.7.1 is available to be downloaded manually…. Will it fire an update process from WPML 4.6.15 at some time or does it need to be upgraded manually?
Hello there,
There is no need for a manual upgrade, you can directly install WPML 4.7.1.
However, don’t hesitate to make a full backup before this process as it is a major release.
Regards
Hello, I currently have 4.6.15 and 4.7.1. is available. Is this issue resolved for this version?
Hello Anna,
Here’s our recommended workflow for updating to version 4.7.1:
– Make a full backup of your site and database
– Start by updating String Translation to version 3.3.1.
– Then update WPML CMS to version 4.7.1.
– Last, update any other plugins from our suite that you may have installed.
Greetings gentlemen, I’ve just created a backup as the website crashed after the update of String Translation component. Will this be addressed soon and I should hold off with any WPML updates until it’s fixed?
I do not see an option to update WPML to 4.7.1 inside the WP dashboard.
Hi Aleksander,
Sorry to hear about the inconvenience. Until we address this issue in a future release, I recommend the following workflow:
We are rolling out WPML 4.7.1 gradually in a phased release (to address issues like this). That’s why you will currently find it only in your WPML.org account and not in the WordPress dashboard.
Hello, I got the same issue. I downloaded WPML CMS, String Translation and Woocommerce files and uploaded via FTP. I can not activate any of the plugins. Can you help?
Hi Chris,
Could you please try updating String Translation first, followed by WPML CMS and WooCommerce Multilingual? If the issue persists, feel free to start a chat on our support forum. We’ll be happy to assist you.
Hello, I downloaded the latested files from this website and uploaded the files via ftp. WordPress says that everything is up to date.
Chris,
Actually, the issue has been fixed in WooCommerce Multilingual 5.4.1, so you might want to update this plugin first and then WPML CMS and String Translation!
Hello Nicolas,
I removed all the plugins from the website.
I downloaded the latested versions from wpml.org website.
I uploaded the files via FTP.
Wordpress says there is nothing to update.
The “fatal” issue persists and I cannot activate any of the 3 plugins.
Hello Chris,
In that case, could you please start a chat on our support forum? We’d be glad to take a closer look and assist you further.
