Things will be fine one second and then we get an error in our dashboard saying that the site key is incorrect and the entire plugin will need to be reconfigured. Symptoms: When trying to add the site key from WPML it throws an error saying that the site key doesn't match. Questions: Why does our instance of WPML keep breaking? Why does the site key show as incorrect in the dashboard? How can we reconfigure WPML without encountering errors? Is it possible to prevent any loss of data?

Background of the issue:
I'm not sure why our instance of WPML keeps breaking. It seems that the configuration is breaking somehow. Things will be fine one second and then we get an error in our dashboard saying that the site key is incorrect and the entire plugin will need to be reconfigured.
