Getting started with Toppan Digital Language and WPML

To send content for translation to Toppan, install the following plugins on your website:

  • WPML Multilingual CMS – the core plugin
  • WPML String Translation – this plugin will allow you to translate interface strings

You can download them from your account. If you do not have an account yet, you can create a new one by choosing WPML Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency plans.

Working with Toppan Digital Language via WPML

Here are the basic steps of working with WPML and Toppan. For a full walkthrough, check out our page about using WPML with a translation service.

Connecting Your Website to Toppan

First, you need to connect WPML with Toppan. Part of this very simple process is to request your Toppan Username and API token.

You’ll need to register at Toppan. You will be assigned an Account Manager to help you throughout the process.

Your Account Manager will provide you with a username and API key in order for you to connect to Toppan as well as a login and URL of your Client Portal account where you can view and approve quotes, launch translation jobs, monitor work in progress, and gain access to management and financial reporting.

Sending content for translation

Once your site is connected to Toppan, you can start sending your content for translation.

Receive a quotation from Toppan

After content has been sent from WPML, you’ll need to log into the Toppan Client Portal to view pricing, select service levels, and approve quotes for translation.

Once quotes have been approved, the job will be launched automatically and will receive a confirmation by email when the source content has been received by Toppan and the translation work has started.

Receiving completed translations

Once done, your site is ready to receive completed translations.

Once the translation work has been completed, you’ll be notified by email and can log into WordPress and visit the WPML Translation Management page to import these into your website.

Canceling translation jobs

Jobs that have been quoted but not approved and launched can be canceled by you within the Toppan Client Portal and these will automatically be canceled in WPML.

If you need to cancel a job that has been approved and launched, you’ll need to notify your Account Manager. You will be charged for any work that has been completed before the cancellation request has been received so please make sure that you intend to translate any jobs that have been approved in the Client Portal.

Translating the Rest of Your Site

Once you’re done translating the content of your page, there could be untranslated texts in menus, sidebars, and similar places. No problem, you can use Toppan to translate the rest of your site.
