Today, we released WPML 4.6.3 and WPML String Translation 3.2.5. These releases make sure your site is compatible with the upcoming WordPress 6.2 and fix PHP 8 errors.

With WordPress 6.2 scheduled for release on March 28, we want to make sure WPML is ready to go. That’s why we’re releasing WPML 4.6.3 before the WordPress update. This version ensures that your multilingual site stays compatible with the latest WordPress version.

What’s New in WordPress 6.2

WordPress 6.2 finally brings the Site Editor (aka Full Site Editing) out of the beta, with lots of usability improvements. Here are the top new features and improvements:

  • Site Editor Interface – Improved interface with a Template and Template Part selection upon entry.
  • Block Styles Settings and Styles –  Separation of settings into two tabs for better organization.
  • Style Book – New feature offering previews and customization of core block styles.
  • Sticky Positioned Blocks – Position blocks like Navigation Bars to stick to the top of the screen.
  • Navigation Block with List View – Improved navigation block editing with access to List View.
  • Openverse Integration – Access and insert Creative Commons licensed media from Openverse.

What’s New in WPML 4.6.3

This WPML release focuses primarily on compatibility with WordPress 6.2, so you can keep your sites up to date without breaking them.

WPML’s Compatibility with WordPress 6.2

WordPress 6.2 changes the Navigation menu which conflicts with WPML’s Language Switcher block. When trying to edit the Dimension setting in the Language Switcher block, it freezes the editor. WPML 4.6.3 resolves this issue, making your language switcher formatting smooth and hassle-free.

Resolved PHP 8 Errors

We have been listening to feedback regarding PHP 8 issues reported by clients. We have worked hard to resolve these issues to ensure websites running PHP 8 continue to run smoothly and efficiently.

WPML String Translation 3.2.5 fixes a fatal error with string scanning that’s related to PHP 8.

How to Update to WPML 4.6.3

Before updating your site to WordPress 6.2, please be sure to update WPML first to prevent breaking changes.

Remember to update your site to both WPML 4.6.3 and WPML String Translation 3.2.5.

As with all of our releases, we are rolling this out to clients gradually.

To update your site now, go to PluginsAdd New on your site and click the Commercial tab. Then, click Check for updates. If you still don’t see an update available after doing this, please try again later as it can take a bit of time for the update to propagate to all WPML-powered websites.
