The client changed their domain from eclipsemining.com to eclipsedatainnovations.com and encountered issues with WPML asking for a migration code from the old domain, which they no longer have access to. Additionally, after following initial steps for re-registration, WPML still detected a change in the site’s URL and required further actions.
Solution:
1. Manage Site Keys in Your WPML Account
* Log in to your WPML account at https://wpml.org/account/sites/.
* Delete the site key associated with the old domain and add a new site for the new domain to generate a new site key.
2. Unregister and Re-register WPML on Your New Blog Site
* Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
* Navigate to Plugins → Add New Plugin, click on the Commercial tab.
* Unregister the old site and register the new site using the new site key.
3. Acknowledge Site Movement
* Confirm the site has been moved when prompted by WPML.
4. Update Old Domain References
* Use a plugin like Better Search Replace to update all database references from the old domain to the new one.
If you still encounter issues after these steps, such as WPML detecting a change in your site’s URL, click on "No/I changed the address of the site to this new one" and then "No/You will need to assign credits or set up a pay-as-you-go plan for this site to use automatic translation". If the problem persists, you may also try selecting "I just logged in from a secondary domain".
