How automatically translating our company website improved the user experience for thousands of visitors for just a few dollars.

In 2024, we decided to automatically translate our company website, onthegosystems.com, to Spanish, French, and German. The result?

  • Up to 67% of visitors chose to read content in their native language
  • Translated content contributed 41% to our total traffic growth over 3 months
  • Our translation costs dropped to just a few dollars per month

The best part is we achieved all this without a single human translator or complex workflow. Here’s exactly what we did — and why you should too.

Why We Translated Our Website

OnTheGoSystems is fully international, with employees from all over the world. As part of our efforts to attract global talent, we constantly advertise jobs on sites like WeWorkRemotely, where our target candidates typically search for work opportunities.

Although job listings include all the necessary information, some candidates visit our website to learn more about the role and our company.

The problem is – while all candidates speak English, many aren’t fluent and prefer reading important information in their native language.

To improve communication, we decided to automatically translate onthegosystems.com into the 3 most popular languages; Spanish, French, and German.

The Benefits of Automatically Translating Our Site

1. Improved User Experience For up to 67% of Users

Translating OnTheGoSystems improved the user experience for up to 67% of our visitors. We measured this by comparing the number of users who visit our homepage in their native language, compared to those who visit in English.

This data shows that, when given the option, visitors prefer reading content in their native language – even if they know English.

2. New Content Gets Automatically Translated

Every month, we publish new content on our website, including:

  • Job listings
  • Employee stories
  • News announcements

To translate this content, one of our admins used to spend hours every month manually sending these pages for translation. Besides being time-consuming, this task was extremely repetitive and easy to forget – especially since we publish (and update) a lot of content.

Using WPML’s Translate Everything Automatically feature, we finally automated this task and freed ourselves to work on more important activities.

Now, whenever we publish new content, WPML automatically translates it to all three languages. Even when we make changes, WPML automatically updates translations and keeps our content up-to-date across all languages.

3. Translated Content Accounts for 41% of Traffic Growth

Our translated content is just getting started, but when compared to our English content, it’s already contributing 41% to our traffic growth!

Here’s our traffic per language over the past 3 months, compared to the previous 3 months. As you can see, translated content grows at double-digits each quarter!
