Problem: The client is experiencing an issue with the WPML plugin where a category named 'Nieuws' is being displayed as 'not part of any category' when the plugin is activated. This issue is causing an extra category to be added in the backend. When the plugin is deactivated, the 'Nieuws' category is removed from the menu structure but reappears when the plugin is reactivated.
Solution: We asked the client to confirm if the issue does not occur when WPML is deactivated and to provide the location on the website where the 'Nieuws' section is shown as 'not part of any category'. Upon receiving further details, we identified that the default WordPress category term 'Uncategorized' (term ID 1) was appearing in Dutch as 'Geen onderdeel van een categorie' under the English version of the site and was translated into 'Nieuws' in Dutch. We advised the client to activate WPML and rename the default 'Uncategorized' (Geen onderdeel van een categorie) to 'News' in the appropriate language.
