Translated strings dont show on frontend

Instead of the expected English boxes below documents and catalogues, I see the Slovak versions. Same with widgets in the header. Questions: Why are the translated strings with custom HTML not showing on the frontend? How can I ensure that the translated content appears correctly on the website?

Background of the issue:
