We’ve just released WPML Export and Import 1.1.0. You can now schedule automatic processing of your imported multilingual content, import custom product attributes, and more.

WPML Export and Import lets you sort your imported multilingual content to the correct secondary languages on your site. With this release, the process becomes more automated and complete.

What’s New in WPML Export and Import 1.1.0

Schedule Automated Processing of Multilingual Content

Using WPML Export and Import when you import content once in a while is easy. But, what happens if you have scheduled import actions done frequently in the background?

Until now, you needed to manually run WPML Export and Import every time a scheduled import was completed — or set up a complex process with WP CLI. This added manual work on top of what should be an automated process.

WPML Export and Import 1.1.0 solves this challenge. You can now trigger it automatically with your regular scheduled imports, using one of two API options:

  • URL endpoint: This allows you to set up an extra call for the WPML Export and Import process in the same way you’ve set up existing jobs. For example, if you’re using WP All import and cron jobs for importing content, you can add one more URL to trigger the WPML add-on.
  • Action hook: You may prefer the action hook if it fits your setup. For example, if you’re using Action Scheduler, you can configure a hook to call on WPML Export and Import in a PHP script. This method is more relevant for developer integrations.

Both APIs enable silent, automated WPML import processing without manual work.

See how to schedule processing for your multilingual content with these API methods.

Import Products with WooCommerce Custom Attributes

Until this version, you could only import variable WooCommerce products with global attributes. Custom attributes wouldn’t be displayed correctly in translations, and you needed to add them manually.

Now, WPML Export and Import 1.1.0 automatically adds a field for custom attributes and applies them correctly to translated products.

This means you can import custom attributes without any manual intervention. Just make sure the plugin is active when you export products with WooCommerce — no need for anything else.

Bug Fixes For Smoother Taxonomy Importing

With this release, we also fixed a few issues to ensure imported taxonomies worked correctly:

  • Better support for hierarchical category structure. Before this update, if a product was assigned only to the deepest subcategory in a hierarchy such as Parent > Subcategory 1 > Subcategory 2, only that last category was linked to translations. If the parent categories had nothing assigned, they weren’t synced properly. Now, WPML Export and Import identifies parent taxonomy terms and assigns them the correct language automatically.
  • Improved logic when retrieving language information. This corrects issues caused by external factors.
