Overview of the issue

When using the X theme or Cornerstone page builder, you should be able to translate Cornerstone pages quickly and easily using WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor, or manually by using Cornerstone’s native language switcher.

However, Global Blocks do not appear within the WPML Advanced Translation Editor and are also not working as expected with Cornerstone’s switcher – you cannot clone the content from the existing language over to the secondary language in order to translate it.

Workaround

The only way to translate Global Blocks right now is to use Cornerstone’s language switcher and recreate the global block from scratch.

To do this:

    1. Go to the global block editing screen
    2. Click on the flag in the bottom right-hand corner of the language you want to translate the global block into
    3. On the Translate pop-up window, click the Start Blank button then click From Scratch
    4. Recreate the global block and add the translated content
    5. Save

Next steps to resolve this issue

We have let the Cornerstone team know about this particular issue, and want to work with them in order to improve the overall workflow for you. However, for both of our teams to understand the best path forward, we’d like to hear exactly how you are translating your sites – are you using the native language switcher, or do you need a better integration with WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor? The more you can tell us about your needs, the better we can improve our integration.
