Background of the issue:
I am trying to resolve an issue where our WP admin locks up weekly for several minutes without affecting the front-end. We identified a MySQL spike linked to an admin-ajax.php call, and it seems the WPMLUtilitiesLock::create function is stuck in a loop. I found two related support posts marked as 'Known issue': https://wpml.org/forums/topic/thousands-of-duplicate-queries/#post-14081673 and https://wpml.org/forums/topic/major-performance-bottle-necks-when-wpml-is-enabled/.

Symptoms:
The WP admin locks up for several minutes weekly, with a MySQL spike and a transaction trace leading to an admin-ajax.php call. The WPMLUtilitiesLock::create function appears to be stuck in a loop.

Questions:
Could you please look into this and let us know if there is anything we can do (possibly a WPML setting)?
Is there any update on a fix for this?
