Critical error after updating plugins

steve	I am moving my sites over to a new server - same provider, just a new server that offers php8... prior to moving I am trying to update , well, everything.... this is a stie I built a couple of years ago (or more) and the client decided they didn't need the monthly service... so here we are. I have been updating plug ins one by one.... on a staging site and everything seems to be OK - until I get to wpml. then I get a critical error - I also get a critical error if I try to update WP core... which is why I thought to update the plugins first.
