Problem:
The client is working on merging two separate WordPress installations into a single one using WPML to handle translations. They aim to minimize downtime for the Polish site (.pl) and ensure that SEO for the .pl domain remains strong.
Solution:
1. Set up WPML on the .com version.
2. Export content from the .pl domain and import it into the .com version using default WordPress export tools. You can then manually connect them as translations. For more details, visit https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/
3. Alternatively, export content from both .com and .pl domains, adjust the exported CSV as per our documentation, and then import them back to .com as translations of each other. Note that taxonomies need to be translated before page/post import. 4. Once all content is imported correctly, delete the .pl website, set up the domain correctly, and configure WPML to use the domain per language option.
