Overview of the Issue
In Divi 4, you could open a Theme Builder layout, switch to a second language, and build a different version of the layout for that language.
Divi 5 does not have this option. You translate Theme Builder layouts (header, body and footer) with WPML’s standard translation workflow. The translation keeps the design of the original layout, so you cannot use a different layout design in each language.
Workaround
To show different content in each language, put that content in a global item of the Divi Library. WPML shows the translation of a global item in each language, also inside a Theme Builder layout.
- Save the part of the layout that must change per language (for example, a footer section) as a global item in the Divi Library.
- Go to the DiviTheme Builder page and add this global item to your header, body or footer layout.
- Go to the WPMLTranslations page and translate the Library item. It is in the Layouts section.
- Open the translated Library item in the Divi builder and change its content or design for that language.
- Publish the translated Library item. A draft translation of a global item shows nothing on the front-end.
Each language now shows its own version of the global item. This works also when the Theme Builder layout itself has no translation.
