WPML

Overview of the Issue

If your site was set up with an older version of WPML and never had a translation editor selected, updating to WPML 5.0 or later switches it to the Advanced Translation Editor. This happens soon after the update, without any action from you.

After the switch:

  • New translation jobs open in the Advanced Translation Editor instead of the Classic Translation Editor.
  • The automatic translation options appear.
  • WooCommerce products and other content that you translated with WPML’s Translation Editor can switch to the WordPress editor.

WPML 5.3 will stop this switch: these sites will get the Classic Translation Editor. Sites that already switched keep the Advanced Translation Editor until you change it.

Workaround

Do these steps on each site that switched:

  1. Finish or cancel the translation jobs that are open in the Advanced Translation Editor.
  2. Go to WPMLSettingsTranslation Editor and choose the Classic Translation Editor. Change only this setting.
  3. If you translated WooCommerce products with WPML’s Translation Editor before the update, set it again. Open one product for editing. In the Language box, click the WPML icon (WPML Translation Editor), choose All products, and click Apply. Do the same for any other post type you translated with WPML’s Translation Editor.

Translations you finished in the Advanced Translation Editor stay.
