We run a site with posts and pages in multiple languages for a bilingual audience, so very often the case is that content does not get translated. However we still want people to see all the content (regardless of the language it was publishes on, and the interface language they've chosen): we have solved this by duplicating posts to "the other" languages when there is no translation in our plans. However this raises the issue of comments: we still get two different posts, so comments are spread out and we can't see a) all the comments to a post in any language (we need to change the interface language to check), or b) a list of all the latest comments regardless of language. This is a serious problem for us.

I have seen in this forum that the feature has been requested many times (for example, here: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/multi-language-comment-merging/), but there is no response or working solution for this. Again, having a bilingual audience, one of these two would work for us:

1. Somehow set that when a translation is not found for a certain post, the existing language version is shown + displayed in listings (suboptimal, because comments would still be divided into as many translated posts as we have); or
2. Merge comments and show everything in every post published in many languages.

Is there any way to currently achieve any of this?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

At the moment there are no plans to add a comment merging feature to WPML.

This has been done for WooCommerce Multilingual (WCML) product Reviews with the use of the attribute - ?clang=X where X is either "all" or the language in question.

However, at the moment WPML comment merging feature has been rejected by our team.

You can still add a feature request here as the more the better chances that a feature will be revisited.

A workaround might be trying the following glue plugin but do keep in mind that it is no longer maintained.
