Contexte de la question:
I am trying to modify my pages on the website lien caché, which was originally in German and translated into French and English. Recently, I decided to set English as the default language, with French and German as translations.
Symptômes:
When I try to edit a page in English, I receive the following message: 'Les modifications que vous êtes sur le point d'effectuer seront perdues. Vous êtes sur le point de modifier cette traduction en utilisant l'éditeur standard de WordPress. Tous les changements que vous apporterez seront perdus la prochaine fois que vous enverrez cette page pour traduction.'
Questions:
How can I resolve the issue of losing changes when editing English pages?
How can I ensure that English pages are considered the default language and that all template pages and widgets in German and French are automatically considered translations?

Hello,
Thanks for reaching out to WPML support!
There are two important things to keep in mind:
Default language: this is the language visitors see first when opening your site. You’ve now set English as the default.
Original language: this is the language a page was first created in. All translations are linked back to this original, and this cannot be changed.
So if a page was originally created in German and then translated into English, WPML still treats German as the “source.” That’s why when you try to edit the English page, WPML warns you that changes could be lost — because updates need to start from the original (German) version and then be re-sent to translation.
You have two main options:
Keep the current setup: Edit the German page (the original) and then re-translate to English and French using WPML’s editor.
Switch English to become the “source”: To do this, you’d need to delete the German/French versions and recreate them as translations from English. This way, English is the original and future edits can start there. But note that you’ll lose the existing translation memory.
If you just want to edit pages directly in English without WPML’s editor, you can — but then you’d need to manually update the other languages too, since they won’t stay in sync through WPML. I can explain how to do this separately on each language.
The think is that it's time consuming to do all the work again in the translation, is there a way to just switch English to be the main language and set the French and German to be the translations without recreating the page ?

WPML allows you to change the default site language (what visitors see first), but it does not provide a bulk option to change the original/source language of existing pages. Since your pages were originally created in German, WPML will always treat German as the source. If you want English to be the source, you would need to recreate the German and French versions as translations of English (you can use bulk duplication as described here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/).
There’s no automatic switch for this unfortunately. Let me know if this is not what you asked so I could clarify further!
